Hi there,
I have just bought an 2001 model R1 and when checking it today I noticed the oil level is basically at minimum. I checked the manual, and cant find what is the grade of oil to put in? Can anyone help with this?
Thanks,
Ian.

If I had just bought the bike I would dump the existing oil and start with again with new oil and oil filter.
As to which oil? Any good 4 stroke motorcycle specific oil. I use synthetic myself and change it every 2-3 thousand miles.

When the bike is running, should you see an oil level in the site class?? At present I aint seeing anything......

You have to check the oil level without the engine running...if you have just got back from a ride then leave it for a couple of minutes to let the oil settle to its own level....and upright obviously

I'm not trying to be a dink or anything but....if you dont know enough to check your oil level with the bike not running...maybe you should let someone else add the oil. :dunno Maybe a mechanic or someone who knows how to work on bikes.

If I am unsure about anything, I ask, so what is the harm in asking the question. Every bike is different, and as I have just got this I wanted to make sure. I have dropped the oil and added new oil and a new filter so everything is fine now. :)

how much oil do these bikes drink? or is it a case of how hard you ride?
here's a pic of my own!

Some none, some a little, some a lot, depends on the engine wear, mileage, oil changes and abuse by previous owners.
A good way to introduce your bike though.
