I had bought a set of barnett friction plates, proceeded to remove exsisting plates and I am having trouble seeing any wear not to mention they look completely different than the barnett plates do they have a bunch of "pucks" as compared to the barnett ones which is a solid composite material around the whole plate.there seems to be lots of material left on the plates that are in there. I just thought i should replace them because the bike has 40 k on it. side note I am a auto mechanic with about 10 years experience, I have never turned a wrench on a bike untill this year. any and all suggestions appreciated!

only way to tell is check manual and see what thickness of plates is suppose to be. on 04.. new ones are like .018 thick and minimum to use is like .012. so if u can see .006 of inch...then ur a bad mofo.. go to harbor freight and get cheap set of digital calipers.. like $14. then check manual and see. but if they were not slipping..then dont change them yet. i cant rememeber specks on 01 clutches...but like i said... just hang on to plates till u need them.
