Hello!
I have a 2000 R1 with 14,500 miles on it. I'm just starting to get the begining stages of 2nd gear pop-out. I plan on pulling apart the engine/trany and sending the gears and other goodies to R&D in clearwater for undercutting. While I had the engine apart I figured that I would add exhaust and re-jet the carbs, etc. I spoke with Ivan from Ivan's performance products to inquire abou his jet kit. After telling him about my situation, he recommened that I replace the rod bearings while I'm in there. He said that most come out of spec from the factory.
Does this sound correct? Should I replace the bearings after only 14,500? I know there are some R1 enigne grus out there.... please help!

my engine has 5799 miles on it and I'm selling the whole bike for $2000 insurance just totaled it due to a cosmetic flaw in the frame a small dent on the side rail.... just needs new ignition to run.

any time I have a crank out of a motor I replace the main and rod bearings.
I always go with the factory recomended size.
I have never had a motor I built spin a rod or main bearing.
rod and main bearings usually run $200.

u dont have to take crank out to get tranny out. but if u do pull crank out.. then it would be good idea to check bearings and replace them.

Thanks for the quick replies!
I know that I don't need to pull the crank out to get the tranny out, but he recommended that I change the bearings while I was in there. After splitting the cases to get the tranny out, I'd only be another 8 bolts away from pulling the crank… right?
I'm just wondering if this is a good idea or not... I'm a firm believer in "If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it". But, if it is wrong or recommended... I want to make it right while I have the engine all apart anyways.

its good idea just to remove rod caps and check them. a visual inspection will do, tho mic'ing them would be best.
