TheVice 04-25-2007, 03:52 PM Anyone else experiencing an oil leak in there bran spanking new motorcycle??
I have 195 miles on it... got to ride it a whole 3 times and then it started leaking all over the place. I broke it in right (even though we all have an opinion on that- lol) Back to the dealer... They have had it for 3 1/2 days now and they think??? they found the problem... defective gasket somewhere under the throttle boddies. They couldnt tell me over the phone.. but I will find out tomorrow what the details are... just curious if there are others out there with the same problem... (sorry if there is another post else where regarding this)
Tire side down!!
sportbiker1968 04-25-2007, 04:13 PM Yes, I had the same thing happen yesterday. I wasn't sure if it was oil or anifreeze cause it dripped on assfault so I didn't know if it disolved the assfault and became brown in color, or it was brown before it dripped.
Thanks for the thread. Keep me posted
R1Phrankey 04-25-2007, 11:00 PM Had this problem with my 04. It was leaking on the left side of the engine. The leakage was caused by a gasket (O-ring?) from the starter engine. Difficult to get there, because the throttle bodies have to be removed.
stap71 04-27-2007, 11:05 PM I believe i had the same problem , I think I got a little out the one of the vent tubes on left side....Thought it was a pcv issue or somethin. It only happened once so I just let it go.
Light_Bringer 05-01-2007, 07:13 PM Mine is leaking as well. Not sure what it is, but damn, so much for a new motorcyle :bulsh:. There's oil on all the bolts that I circled and in random places all over.
1longR1 05-01-2007, 07:22 PM its prolly one of the engine side covers that leaking and its running down to all other locations you have marked. either that or cases are leaking where its put together and running down. my guess would be one of side covers or starter oring and its running down cases. its not leaking at all those spots.. or you would have helluva a mess. how big is drip on floor after riding, and have you had it serviced at all???

I change the oil at 600, tightened all the bolts and so on. About 2 days ago (at 1200 miles) I noticed a small tiny drop next to the drain bolt, it never dropped to the ground. I wiped it off and it kept forming over the next 2 days and today I took off the fairing and that's what I saw.
1longR1 05-01-2007, 07:42 PM hate to say this.. but why would it start leaking when u changed oil? coincidence? where its leaking should not have been part of anything to do with oil change.. unless when tightenin bolts you may have stripped one? Not saying that you did.. just possible. take it in for warranty... its prolly gonna be in shop for while.. warranty kinda of gets put off and put last in line.. plus most of dealers are like week behind on stuff right now. let us know what outcome is. have u checked bolts again since it started leaking?

The leak has nothing to do with the oil change. The leaking started around 1200 miles and I changed the oil at 600. It's not leaking from the drain plug. The oil that formed next to the drain plug comes from above somewhere. It just ends up there. Same for the bolts in the picture I assume.
Those bolts were never touched. I checked and tightened all the stuff that is required at 600 miles.
Yes, I know it will be stuck in the dealership now  , I'm sure it will be covered under warranty. Just sucks to have to wait on it now.
R1Phrankey 05-01-2007, 11:02 PM Can you clean all the oil mess and then go for a short ride.
Maybe then you can check where the oil leakage starts.
Bogie 05-02-2007, 03:47 AM Damn!! Haven't noticed any on mine but I will keep a close eye on it for sure now!! :fact
Light_Bringer 05-02-2007, 08:17 AM It's at the dealership and it will be covered under warranty. In the daylight it looked like it was coming from somewhere above those side pictures. They will use some fine white powder to find what's going on and then fix it.
I didn't want to mess with it since it's under warranty.
Anyway, no problems with them saying anything about doing self-services or anything of that sort. They also took it in right away when I got there and will start working on it later today :).
AborTivE 05-02-2007, 01:46 PM I started smelling burning oil coming from the right side. I ended up tearing off half the plastic to investigate, but everything seemed dry. It hasn't leaked anything on the ground yet either. Thought it was my imagination till I read this.

The guys at IC Motorsports are great!! :fact :thumbup
Light_Bringer 05-02-2007, 04:46 PM All fixed. Yep, great people there. "O-ring was reasealed" was the final verdict if anybody cares.

Which "O" ring was it?
adamsys 05-21-2007, 12:00 AM I...They will use some fine white powder to find what's going on and then fix it....
Yep, that's the best way to find it. I used to use "Secret Baby Powder" underarm deodorant but I can't find that in the stores anymore. Now I use regular old baby powder. Just clean the offending area throughly with contact cleaner and dust some baby powder on there. Then run the bike. It usually only takes a minute or so and it will appear before your eyes. Then its easy to fix as long as its not obscured by cases or wires.
FYI
Light_Bringer 05-21-2007, 03:26 PM The one behind the round black cover where the bolts are circled. It wasn't in place but wasn't damaged.
