I am ready to buy a set of tires right now. All along I planned on buying the Michelin PP's because I have seen how good they are, but then after searching for the best deal, I came across the shinko 005's. I had not heard of them before. The thing that attracted me was their price tag. It is much less expensive than the pp's. So naturally, I am interested in knowing if anyone knows anything about these tires. I saw a post on another forum when I was searching for a review and one guy said that some dealer had told him the shinko 005's would blow the Q's and the PP's out of the water. Sounds hard to believe, but who knows. For the savings, I wouldn't even mind if they were not quite as good as the pp's as long as they were close. If it is a case of "you get what you pay for" and the shinkos suck, I would'nt even think about it. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

It's a drag tire.
Really? I thought the Shinko 003's were the drag tires.

A friend of mine used their race slick on his supermoto and said they worked good. The profile was a little flat compared to the Pirellis and Dunlops he used before so the turn in was slow he said. I'd say try out that 190 they have and if it sucks throw it away and your not out to much cash but it may just end up being a great tire for you.

I was looking at them myself for my r1. I had them on my gsxr 6 and they worked very well and def lasted more then what i expected. The only prob i would give them is if you like to turn hard your going to feel the road compared to your other brands. If your not out there to dip turns hard then go for them!!

I have a 005 on my 99 R1 and it is good not had a prob yet with them. I turn pretty hard and they stick well with a hot day they are a soft tire so they wouldnt last asa long as a pp but you could buy 2 shinko's for the price of the pp. I can easly get 4000 miles out of them

003 and ultra 003 are drag tires. dont know much about others including slicks..but heard u have to really warm them up for grip. for roadracing i wouldnt sacrifice little cash for having best tires, so i would spend $$ for good tire and skip shinkos

this is an old thread but, shinko 005's are junk. maybe someone has had a good experiance with them but not me. as stated earlier they feel heavy really slow turn in, I almost low sided with them and I wasn't even at a very dramatic lean angle. the front end just went away. the mileage sucked on them also the rear was a slick in 2800 miles. the dealer said they were considered a "sport touring" tire. I got suckered in buy the price. I guess it's true, you get what you pay for.
P.S. I ran them on my FZ6, I wouldn't even think of spooning them on my R1

I had good results with them on my F3,
You need to run a few less psi in them to get good feel, but I think the 003 would be a better choice to be equivalent to PP's.
