crazygumby 05-03-2007, 11:11 PM when u guys first get the bikes did u guys feel the bike is stuttering under 6000rpm? it feels like whenyou just start to ride and didn't give it enough gas and it's about to die out. please let me know becuase this stutter is killing me it's not smooth and powerless. i dunno what to do this is really dissapointing. btw i only have 22 miles on the bike so far
7777r1 05-04-2007, 01:34 AM I'm guessing you're talking about the 5500 rpm lag that is posted about here: www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185084
Yes all of us with US spec bikes feel it.
Hey at least you don't have my bike, 'cause it could definitely be worse for you...My bike died almost every time I would come to a stop, for the first few hundred miles. It also would die if I revved the engine in neutral or in gear with the clutch pulled in as well. Now I'm just over 400 miles on it, and it seems to be doing this less frequently but that 5500 rpm lag will not go away until yamaha or someone else comes up with a fix.
We're all going through this together and I wish Yamaha would step up.
crazygumby 05-04-2007, 12:44 PM yes it was more like under 4k not 6...and get a couple hundred miles in you'll be fine!!!
got this from another thread, thats what im talking about not the lag. it's under 4 u full throttle it it feels like the bike is chocking. my r6 feels like it had more lowend than this r1.
but i dunno if i'll get use to it or it's gonna get better?!
sportbiker1968 05-11-2007, 11:28 AM Crazygumby,
I know what you talking about!.....I have it too, and another 07 I rode had it too. I am glad It's not just me.
The bike feels fine under 4000 rpm until you go to accelerate, then it feels like the mirrors are going to shake loose!....I talked to Yamaha about it and they said to take it to a dealer and have them check it out (thanks for nothin). From what I can tell, anyone who owned an R1 before and got an 07 should notice it. I talked to a guy that his first bike was an R1 (scary) and he noticed it but it didn't bother him.
Well is bugs the SHIT out of me!......
If anyone out there has noticed this problem and has made mods that fixed it let us know!....
crazygumby 05-11-2007, 12:07 PM how maNy miles do you have on yours now?
sportbiker1968 05-11-2007, 01:28 PM 800
crazygumby 05-11-2007, 02:22 PM and it's still doing that? are u riding it hard? i after i posted this i went out and ran my bike hard i mean running it til redline and now it's gone or has gotten alot better. btw i only have like 270 miles on mine
07r1gp 05-11-2007, 03:57 PM i have 3600 miles on mine, opened up exhaust and a pc3, 1- down, the bike is a hell of alot smoother and pulls harder, still have the 2nd gear lag, the bike doesn't like being pushed hard at 4k rpm, pull it up to 6k and it will go and ride fine, i cruise around 5k and it rides fine. btw ride it hard don't be afraid cause they said break in, it will run better if you run it hard
sportbiker1968 05-12-2007, 05:50 PM 07r1gp,
I am curious about your mods. You said you opened up the exhaust, ...Did you remove the Cat or put in baffles (or slip-ons), or both?....Also you are using a PC3. What map are you using?....I have a PC3 but not sure what map to use with it.

I experienced this a little, not as bad as you're describing, but after making a few mods, I don't feel at all, at any point in the RPM range. I put race baffles in the stock pipes (to add a little horse power and get a better sound), put on a BMC air filter (for maybe 1 or 2 more HP), gutted the cat (because of the excess heat), and used a PC111 to bring it all together. She's a beast now............ The other mods were great, but the PC111 and map was the key...........

I GUTTED MY CAT, RUN THE BAFFLE KIT IN MY MUFFLERS, AND RUN THE M426-006 MAP AND NO O2, AND ALSO -1 ON THE FRONT GEAR, WITH 10-40 SYNTHETIC BLEND OIL, RUNS HARD AND STRONG ALL DAY LONG, AND IT WILL SHOOT FLAMES WHEN YOUR HARD ON IT AND THE EXHAUST IS HOT

I now know what you're talking about and yes, it's pretty bad. It definitely isn't the 2nd gear 5500 rpm lag 'cause it happens in first gear. It does feel just like you described...In first gear right after starting up, the bike shakes like it's going to die and also has a lag if you get on the throttle. It's become worse as I've put on more miles.
I changed the oil at 30 miles on my bike and I'm going to change again at 600. I'm currently at 500 miles and I'm using 10w40 oil...Could that maybe have anything to do with it? Every honda I've owned used 10w40 and I assumed this bike would be the same...Does anyone else run 10w40?
MuffDVR 05-15-2007, 12:14 PM I use 10w30

Yes i am using 10/40, first oil change last week at sixty miles plenty of little metal particles in the oil...normal for first change, now at 150 miles. Change again at 250, then 600 with new filter.Runing good no problems.:)
dlashraf 05-15-2007, 06:22 PM wow.. my bike dosen't accelerate smoothly when started from idle... after a stop, when i takd off, the bike almost chokes for a second from 2-4rpm and then it goes, and when it goes only to run into the stupid glitch at 5500 rpm........ is this what yamaha is all about now??? iv'e had the 05 also, so i can def. feel the differences... :(

Yep, I wonder if everyone has this? Or maybe we are just more picky than others? What I do know is that my '06 1krr never had any of these problems and felt like more of a beast than my R1. Maybe I got a dud I don't know, haha. I guess you live and learn. It just sucks it cost me 12k to learn a lesson!
After being a happy Honda customer for the past 10+ years, I figured I would try something new when my bike was totaled from getting hit by a car...Not too happy about my decision. Sorry to get off topic.
dlashraf 05-17-2007, 04:26 PM yah, i had my old gsxr totaled also.. but there was a huge freakin bump in the road.... but i'm very upset at this situation also. my 05 r1 was stolen. and i lost 7k there. now i'm having these annoying issues with the 07r1, which i paid 13k for. sooo,,,, WTF?
the_chosen_ONE 06-02-2007, 11:25 PM this is my first NEW bike and i must say, I love the way it looks but i dont like the way it performs, i´m very disapointed with yamaha. Not the best way to spend 13K
ridemoore 06-12-2007, 07:46 PM I've got a used 06, with 7k miles, and I've got the same shuddering problem at 5500 rpm.
I had an FZ1 and never had anything like this.
Guess I'll look into the PCIII. Ugh, more $ to spend.
crazygumby 06-13-2007, 02:27 PM i got the fix!!
PCIII with 006 no o2 map will smooth your bike out drastically.
along with race baffles and gutted cat

Thanks for the info. I guess I need to start hunting for a PCIII. Is "with 006 no o2" a map for the PCIII?
Also, how loud are the race baffles? I've gutted my cat, but I really don't want a loud bike. Do the race baffles really help low-mid range or do they just sound cool?
My last bike had a D&D exhuast, I'm happy to have peace and quiet now.
crazygumby 06-16-2007, 01:23 PM yes 006 no 02 is a map form the powercommander site
pretty loud and the race baffles do improve a little low-mid range, but mainly for sound.
AborTivE 06-18-2007, 09:43 AM I had a D&D slip-on on my '01 R6, and the race baffles are probably just as loud as that. They help out on power, but you won't really notice it till you hit the higher RPMs. This bike doesn't have the low end grunt like the ZX10R or the older R1's, but F#$% when you hit 6,000 RPMs the thing tries to leave you. I raced one of my buddies that has a '04 GSXR 1000. He would leave me at the line (mostly my fault), but I would gain on him hard. I really love this bike. Of course there are some faults, and I agree this thing is a pud below 3 or 4 grand (sometimes I wish I had gotten another R6, but that goes away when it hits the 6 grand mark). For some of you that don't know, when you put after market exhaust on you will lose some of the low end grunt you once had. You will gain HP and Torque, but not till later in the RPM range.
ridemoore 06-18-2007, 09:57 AM I am not looking for a rocket. I do 1-2 trackdays per year. Mostly street riding.
I just want to smooth out the jumpiness (stuttering) @ 4-5k rpm.
If my biggest bang for the $ is a PCIII, then this is what I'll do. I don't want a loud exhaust just to make noise.
I want the bike not to feel like it's running out of gas @ 5000rpm.
AborTivE 06-18-2007, 11:21 AM Going down a tooth in the front should help a lot. I haven't done it myself, because of the speedo, but heard they help out the bottom end alot. I have a PCIII and a ingition module for mine, and it does the same thing. After the US release of the Akra mid pipe (that I'm going to get) I'm going to have it dyno tuned. I'm not sure how much that is going to help the low end. If it helps any, it'll be nice.
