R1 won't start (sheesh).

Guys, Here's the scenario... I ran out of gas riding. I was able to get some gas, but then the battery died on me. I put in a new battery, so the bike is cranking, but won't turnover! I'm thinking that since the tank was totally emptied, something may have clogged either the fuel line or the carburetor. Does that sound about right? Before I ran out of gas, I NEVER had any problems starting the bike. What's some easy tests to verify. Ultimately, I didn't want to take the bike to the shop, but may end up having to. Thanks for all the help!

Thanks for all the help! what do u mean by wont turn over? if u only hear ticking sounds and the engine is not trning then u have to charge the battery.

The engine is turning, but it won't start. I smell gas too. I figured that something may be in the fuel line or carb. The battery is brand new and I did charge it before putting it into the bike.

disconnect one end of the fuel line and turn the ignition on to see if fuel comes out. this will rule out the fuel pump.

Sounds like you need new spark plugs...or at least remove them,blow dry them and reinstall.

I got the bike up and running. I took it to the shop, it needed new plugs, plus the gas needed to be primed again since the tank was so empty! I'm good to go now! Thx guys!
