Lemme pose a question just to get some feedback from the genereal pop.
I also have an 07 R1 and it, like all others, has the 5500 RPM lag in 2cnd gear. However, it pulls like a freight train everywhere else. Yes the lag is a glitch and the bike shouldn't have been released before it was fixed. But......
Here is my question.
How hard is it for you to avoid 5500 in second gear? Even in the mountains this is not a range I am riding in so really what is the big deal???

There are more than enough opinions on this forum about the lag on other threads and this thread is not the place for it. This thread should be closed and made into a sticky in this section with all other post deleted...MOD!!!!

So I take it you DO ride a lot at 5500RPM in second gear???

No I don't. I never hit the lag without trying. Not the point though...I think it's best to keep all the comments about the lag in the 07 R1 glitch thread that has already been started that's all.

I'm relatively certain the "fix" would have to come in the form of "re-flashing" the ECU. Everything about this bike was thought out. I don't believe for 1 second that Yamaha put in an ECU with 5 times the processing power of any other and three different processors inside, performed all the studies to get the "proper" fuel/air mix using numerous sensors, created all the different variables, and then forgot to map this particular section properly. This was planned and to undo it requires circumvention (if you want it gone) because Yamaha is not going to do anything about it because it is what they intended.

The problem IS the ECU and Yamaha WILL fix it FREE OF CHARGE! Just have your yamaha mechanic remove it and send it to Yamaha's main manufacturing facilities so they can tweak it. You can also call Yamaha at 800 962 7926 in the US or 416 498 1911 in Canada and they'll tell you the same thing.
