Fontana village ?

Can anyone recommend a certain part of the village to stay in, I see most are staying in cabins, but I'm sure they're all booked up by now and there is only 2 of us. Will leaving the bikes outside be an issue ? We are bringing an in-closed trailer and gonna lock them up at night, but from the look of the resort it doesn't look like a high risk area......

It's not a high risk area; you should be able to leave your bikes out w/o problem. I'd call and ask about the cabins. there's bound to be something. be sure and ask about A/C, though, just so you are aware. If not, there's probably several who are looking to add people to their cabin. If Bogie PM's you, though, like he has many other unsuspecting males, steer clear of any of his offers...... the perverse brand of sado-masochistic homosexual kink that he surrounds himself with will probably not be to your liking.

Make sure you check out the convention area everyday. There will be some folks who drop out at the last minute leaving several openings in a cabin. Happens every year.

You've got an extra 150 miles on us......I'm so not looking forward to the drive at all.... It's a little further than that as I live about 30 miles north of Saint Paul. The trip isn't that bad really though. Two years ago, my family (wife, son and I) drove to the Hamilton, Ontario area. It was about 17 hours and we did each way in about 1.5 days with plenty of stops for stretching, food, etc. It helped having someone else drive so we could take turns. :yesnod

Try to get a cabin close to Shuckstack road if you can, but really it doesn't make a huge difference. You could opt to stay in the Lodge also, but it would be strictly for sleeping since all the action happens around Shuckstack. One nice thing about the Lodge - WiFi internet access. However, you can just go there and hang out in the lobby with a laptop to do that if you want (that's what I'll be doing). I had the same concerns (last year) about safety as you do. Trust me, you don't need to worry about it. Fontana is 30 miles of curvy roads from ANY trace of civilization. To try to steal a bike from a crowd of die-hard bikers and get away with it would be one freakin ballsy move - it ain't gonna happen. I parked my bike in the Lodge parking lot several nites (as did many others) with no worries.
