I have a problem with the engine throwing all the coolant out.
The fan kicks in at around 216 and the temp still keeps rising till it blows the coolant out. Highest recorded temp from my data logger was 275.
This happens after about 10 minutes from starting from cold.
The water pump is fine and so is the thermostat. The engine runs fine but its not starting to well.
So here's what I did this morning, topped the coolant up to the correct level and left the top of the radiator. I then started it up with my hand on top of the radiator filler neck, I gave it some revs @5000 and it blew my hand off and sprayed coolant everywhere. This was on a cold engine.
So i am obviously getting gas pressure in the coolant system.
I have now took the head off now, but here's my problem, The gasket looks in good condition and the same for the head and block.

Could there be any thing else or is there not usually any visible signs on these steel gaskets?

Sorry for a long post

Cheers Koss.

Get the head shaved now that its off and put a new gasket on since you've gone that far....but you already knew that.

I'm wondering if for some odd reason the coolant simply has nowhere to go? some sort of blockage? kinked in/out hose?

Thanks for the reply. The coolant system pipes were fine.
The engine was bought off ebay advertised as 200 miles old.
I looked a the head again and gave it a good clean up then I noticed some tiny black dots quite a few of them round where the gasket ring sits.
The head looks like its porous, manufacturing fault. Anyway I am going to have it pressure tested today to see if its worth shaving it. $120 pressure test then $80 shave.

Just hope I dont need a new head.

If you can wait a few days I will do you a wiring diagram in pdf format and email it to you.
Is your engine injected?
The fuel pump I use is off a ford cosworth it puts out @ 80psi I run a pressure regulator on the fuel return.

I recently had a similar problem with a car and found it was the thermostat, in the 07 manual is says the thermostat should be full closed at 160 deg F and full open at 185 deg F. The car stat only varied by 8 deg and that was enough to not open properly, If you still have a problem when you put the head back on measure the temp of the water into the pump and the return from the stat to radiator, Because there is a small bypass the return line will be hot but the supply line to the pump will be cold.

change stat and see how you go.
