basically told me this! "WHAT Are you dumb, why didnt you get a k7 SUZY" and I'm Like!!:whtfu: Then it Said " Aboslutely NO Low end and midrange POWER" AND I WAS LIKE :( Also Pretty Much every other 1k Bike this Year is Overall BETTER than the R1.. So Not True. Its Preference, and i Bet SUZY pays those guys on the SIDE. Yamaha Did Not score the Highest on any Criteria, so you cant even say it makes up here for lacking there. it was fairly dissapointing, and Upset me for a few. I Love my Bike and i've always loved Yamaha's, so when i purchased this bike i was Conviced it was Uncomparable to the rest. and in Fact its Not.. BUT IMHO, its the best one out. They Kept saying Street , Street but Track they gave her a bit of Props. and i Drive FAST on the street, its not just stop and go, I Ride a Gear down so i stay high in the RPM's and have all the power at hand.. i Still love her but it would be Nice to have every motorcycle Mag reader, to Read, Yamaha R1 #1 sport bike in 2007. and to know i had the BESt would have made my Day, Instead that stupid Mag, just got ripped up and tossed out!!:drunk: :bs

its simple, every since 2000 except for 2004 when the zx10 was the best bike out, the gixxer 1000 is the bike to beat:fact many may not like the way it looks, but that machine is was all the rest want to beat. the r1 is and always be my fav bike, but it lacks compare to the rest. yamaha has only made minor changes over the yrs, while suzuki, honda, kawi, and now ducati have all done major remapping of their motors over the yrs

Actually Babyit you couldnt be further from wrong. Dont confuse the R1 not winning a dyno contest since 2000 with Yamaha only making "minor changes" to it and the engine. The 98, 99, and 2000 R1 were the most powerful literbikes you could buy.. in other words the R1 was the dyno king in those days. They all used the same basic engine design. The 98 was the rawest. The 99 milded out that power mostly with gearing. For 2000 I believe over 150 things were changed with the bike and power was increased by about 5 hp. The 2001 R1 was the same as the 2000.. but got its azz kicked on the dyno because Suzuki unveiled the Gixxer1000 with Fuel Injection in 2001. The gixxer has technically been the horsepower king since.. well except for 2006 when the ZX10 held the crown for one year only. The 2002 R1 made more power.. about 5 more hp than any R1 before it.. but still didnt make more power than the Gixxer1000. Instead of trying to top Suzuki power the bike was more refined than ever. Thanks to a brand new frame, sleeker design and Fuel Injection. Yes Fuel Injection is a MAJOR upgrade. Other things like an all black frame and wheels, LED taillight, built in undertail, and more track friendly plastic was introduced. The 2003 was the R1 was essentially the same as the 2002 R1. While the 2003 Gixxer was reworked to make even more power. For the first time ever the Gixxer finally got the frame and brakes it needed to match the power it delivered. The 2003 gixxer recieved much sleeker body work, all black frame and wheels, radial brakes, and LED taillight.. things Yamaha has did FIRST with the 2002 R1. Suzuki "refined" their bike.. just as much Yamaha did.. they just gave it even MORE power. The 2004 R1 was a COMPLETELY different engine design. Different bore and stroke and the bike gained between 15-20 hp through the range. Redline on the bike went from 12,500 rpm to 13,750 rpm. The frame was redesigned again. Radial Brakes were standard. Brembo Master cylinder standard. Ram air was included for the first time ever on a R1. Undertail exhaust included. Much lighter wheels and much better suspension were included. And the 2004 R1 made as much PEAK hp as the Gixxer1000 and the ZX10. But the low end power and torque suffered alot. What I'm telling you is if you put all 3 2004 bikes on the dyno they would make about the same peak HP. But riding them.. especially on the street.. the R1 felt the weakest to be a literbike. Even the 2004 1000RR by Honda came within 5 hp of the Gixxer1000. 2004 was the year EVERYBODY really went after Suzukis 2003-2004 literbike. 2005 The Gixxer1000 was redesigned better than ever. Gained even more all around power and a new design becoming more compact than ever. The 2005 gixxer1000 was only 6lbs heavier than the 2005 gixxer600 and made as much as 160hp on some dynos. While the 2005 R1 stayed the same as the 2004. 2006 The Gixxer and the R1 stayed the same. No changes in either bike. The Gixxer was still more powerful than the R1.. but the ZX10 was redesigned and was more user friendly and was the king of the dyno that year. I believe where as the Suzuki would show 160 on some dynos.. the 2006 ZX10 was the first time stock bikes were making 160hp on dynos everywhere and OVER 160 on some dynos. For the first time ever the Gixxer1000 lost its dyno king crown. 2007 The Gixxer and the R1 were both redesigned. The Gixxer is again the HP king making over 165hp at the rear wheel on most dynos.. but the R1 recieved significant changes and is only 5 hp behind the Gixxer1000. The 5 valve heads were finally dropped after being used for almost 10 years and a more conventional 4 head design was used. Fly by wire electronic throttle was introduced. And an variable intake system (first one bike) was introduced. The R1 still doesnt make more peak HP than the Gixxer.. but the bikes are probably as close to being even as they ever were. The HP difference in these bikes were only really relevant BEFORE the 2004 liter bikes hit. In 2004 the other Jap manufacters made a major push to redesign their literbikes to deliver 150hp at the rear wheel and weigh as close as possible to a 600cc bike. Since 2006.. the Gixxer1000 has been the absolute best performing literbike. But all the other bikes are able to provide 95-98% of the Gixxers HP and overall performance. These days you cant really consider any of the Japanese 1000's as "lacking" performance. Unless you are expert racer with years of experience it will be very hard to be faster on one bike than another. Even if you lined the bikes up and went in a straight line.. the performance is still very much even.. way too even to say one bike is absolutely dominant over the others.

I'll save you the trouble of reading the article. blah blah blah. The GSXR is still the best performing liter bike. blah blah blah. The article even goes onto say that the one good thing about the 07 R1 is that the power output is so anemic that some insurance companies are thinking of reclassifying it as a 600.

That was harsh! No comments about build quality or cracked frames on the GSXR?

On the street(which is where most of us do our riding), if you have a guy on every different liter bike in the shootout, it would be impossible to tell a difference in the performance of the liter bike machines. It would literally take professional riders in a closed course environment doing laps to make one bike stand out from another. And if your not at the track only when you ride, then whats the difference if one bike has three more hp than the other? These bike are soo closely matched that SR has to up their expectations and standards every year for their evaluation. Horsepower differences between the highest Suzuki (158.2 @ 12,150) and the lowest Ducati (137.9 @ 9900) are pretty substantial, but if you look at the track times between those two: Suzuki 1:06.92 which was the fastest, and the Ducati 1:07.96 which was the slowest, there is just over a second between them considering the 20+ hp difference. The R1 came in at 155.2 @12,150 hp, which ranks in the top 3 just under the Kawi at a .2 hp deficit. Each bike has its own strong suit, but to be able to recognize these indefinetely on the street would be impossible. The overall rating number of the bikes is decided by the 5 guys in the magazine that rode the bikest on the street and the track and they rate the bikes in(an average of all riders 1-10): fun to ride quality intruments and controls ergonomics chassis and handling suspension brakes transmission engine power engine power delivery Heres how they rated: Ducati 1098 87.0 Honda CBR1000RR 91.0 Kawi ZX10 90.3 Suz GSXR1000 94.3 Yamaha R1 89.0 Now some of these catagories are black and white, but the first three are basically based on opinion of the riders. Based on how close the overall rating within the bikes came, those first three could be the deciding factor of which bikes are the best, based on opinion not facts. But you cant argue with the cold hard facts of the bikes, and if thats all your interested in is having the best numbers then they speak for themself. So, you gotta ask yourself if someone riding a GSXR thinks he has the best bike, then based on this scenerio he speaks the truth to himself. So we think were on the best bike...true.

Damn My Man Daekwon, is very well informed. +1 on that Knowledge playa!!:thumbup Any way i am very happy with My Bike, Changed the Sprocket, now its quick as hell, no more downshifting to pass, and alot of power added from 4k-9k(mid-range)... The comparison, just pissed me off, because they have some nerve. writing about my bytch liek that. At least they mentioned the LAG very specifically, I wouldn't sell this bike for any other liter bike on the market, this is the bike i wanted and i am happy my final decision landed with :fork .

Well as a proud owner of an 07, I have to agree, the power is anemic until about 8K or better. This could be partially because of the 60% throttle opening below 7k RPMS. I hope they change that. Not that that will help me now. But look at the gearing. . .17/45. That is TALL. I hit the revlimiter and I am at an indicated 103 in first. (probablly an honest 90-95mph) Who needs such a long first gear? Sure it will go 184 or something like that. WHo cares? Drop a tooth in the front, possibly 2 in the front. Ride and then see if it is anemic. You have lots of power there, and in stock form it does a GREAT job of putting it to the ground. Its almost traction control-like. But it puts it to the ground and keeps the front end down because its geared with fuel economy in mind. If anyone has the 500rpm/2nd gear bug, DO get your dealer to order you a new ECU. SR even said that ECU issues is what kept the bike from doing well. The new ECO will be an 08 mapping and make a noticable difference.

My mate has an 07 with pipes, PC and 1 down- the ****er had to cheat to beat me on my K6. So many differnt ways to cheat in a roll on. He did get smoked fair and square by another mates K7. I dont think I even want to over take him in the twisties. He's pretty competitive and has a "win at all cost" attitude. I.e will try and take you back on the wrong side of the road. No one wants to be near that shit

To answer to the OP re read that article because the 07 they were using early on was having fuel isssues so in the middle and towards the end of the contest they were unable to get 100% efficiency out of the bike. Oh and the ZX-10 in 2004-2005 was the HP king. 06-07 Kawasaki detuned them slightly and made them less aggressive and the GSXR 1000 took over. 2008 that all will change.
