Purchasing a New Bike R1 or GSXR-1000

Well I've only recently discovered this forum or at least I just recently started using it. Well today is actually a rather sad day for me. I just sold my 1998 R1 with 37.972 Miles on it. I've been looking into new bikes for a while and today I took my last spin on the original. I am planning a purchase of a new bike, I have the money to buy it, but I am having trouble making a choice. I love the R1, I have respected it and it has kept me safe until now. The only thing is that I saw the 07 GSXR-1000 and became a big fan of it. Ive ridden R1's, R6's, CBR 929's and GSXR-600's but never been on a 1000. Tomorrow will probably be the day I purchase a new bike because I really want to be out riding with my buddies. I have those two bikes to choose from and new some feedback on a decision. I loved my R1 and had enormous respect for it, and even though it was old, I wouldn't have changed it for the world. Well I can't decide between the GSXR and the R1. Both are great bikes, but the GSXR is kinda out weighing the R1. I love the look and the feel, hate the side pipes, but enjoy the built in turn signals, because the after market ones I had on my R1 annoyed me. The bikes are nearly identical in power but I am still not sure which to purchase. I love the under the tail exhaust. I am 6'4" and weigh 280 if that makes a difference.

get what YOU want, not what we tell you to get. sit on both, take em for a ride if possible. especially since you're a bigger guy, see what one is more comfy, which one you fit on the best. also, don't rush into buying one tomorrow just to ride with your buddies. wait, think about it, make the right decision. it's not like buying the wrong socks, a new bike is a lot harder to exchange :)

I think the R1 will have a bit more comfort in terms of ergonomics for bigger guys then the GSXR. They both are great bikes so no loss either way. Sit on both, check out the styles of both and at the end of the day go with your gut feeling, you won't be disappointed either way.

Agreed - if you have the money or are pre-approved for it, usually bike shops allow test rides. Just flash the cash. Good luck

Well after much reading on the subject. I finally decided to go with the GSXR......I mean some of you guys may hate me here now, but there were a few reasons for me doing so. I still have respect for the R1 and I am not about talking shit about the other guys bike. I ride with a group of different bikes and so I think if you can handle a 1000 your ok in my book!. Well just to let you all know I got the GSXR1000 K7 for 10,350 out the door, they threw in a free helmet, and my first service is free. What do you think about that price.....btw I live in Illinois and in Cook county the tax is like 9%

Well lets be honest for a sec....the whole frame thing is more of a rumor than a fact. The only thing is I am still a few hundred short of hitting the max gross weight of the bike. Basically I just wont be giving people rides, especially since I never put the rear seat on. I hate riding with people! There a goods and bads to every bike, who knows the next bike might be an R1. I will definetly put some pictures of the new one up when I get a chance. That fender in is still just as butt ugly as the one on the R1.

Hey congrats on the GXSR. It's a nice bike. I think I will get one next if I ever crash or sell my R1.
