On my 02 R1 the first start of the day takes 2 times????
After that shes perfect. Is it most likely the starter??

when you turn the key on, give it about 5 secs to pressurize and fill the fuel rail.

02 r1'a re sort of known for this. i think it depends on how the bike stops. dont use your engine cut off to stop the engine and allow the bike to idle for a minute if you come tearing home.
just stopping and shutting off can flood it a little
