extreme 06-19-2007, 11:05 AM I searched but didnt find what i was looking for so here it goes, i need a rear stand for my O6 my main concerns are stability and clearance of the swingarm. most pics i see of other members i see scratches on the swingarm . so which one do you guys recommened and most important which ones should i stay away from?

IMHO, Pit bull is the way to go. Use the spools on the swingarm and you won't have any issues with stability.

i see that these only have one wheel per side, others i've seen have two per side. i would think the 2per side would be better..:dunno
Klo1320 06-20-2007, 07:59 AM +1 on the pitbull. They are exremely stable, as the tubing is pretty thick. I have a rear and front stem stand. If you can get to a dealer and see it in person you will understand.
pctelecommike 06-20-2007, 08:15 AM I got the Pitbull reverse stand, the lever points towards the front of the bike, real easy if you normally work on your bike alone.

i went to there site but cannot find the reverse stand since i'm always working solo it sounds like it would be the best for me, is it much more $ for it and where can i see it online? the closet dealer is about 50 min ride on the highway in groton ct so instead of driving there i'd like to see it first. ...........thanks guys!:thumbup i just ordered my graves swingarm spools and pilotpowers... its like christmas!
ahh duh never mind i found it!

I use the same stand for my bike. Works great and keeps the bike very stable.
extreme 06-26-2007, 08:36 PM i'm liking the looks of the gytr/graves 4 wheelsand looks well built now to find one for less than $150 i hate being broke!
extreme 06-27-2007, 12:59 PM for all that use the gytr/graves rear stand do you also use there front stand? i might as well get them both since i need new tires now and the dealer wants $140 if i leave them on the bike:confused: or $20 each if off the bike.
tomman 06-27-2007, 02:18 PM I don't use the GYT-R/Graves front stand because it only supports the bottom of the fork legs. I use a front stand that uses a pin that goes into the steering stem. It is much more stable for things like removing your front wheel or adjusting the fork leg position in the triple clamps.
The one I use is a S-Spec (or something) that I picked up on sale at a local shop for $100 but Woodcraft and Pit Bull make similar stands. If you get one make sure it comes with the pin to fit your specific bike (I think all Yamaha sportbikes use the same size pin) or you might have to buy it in addition.
wsmc#928 06-27-2007, 02:26 PM I use the Graves front stand it's perfectly stable and IMO easier to use than the triple clamp stand. I do have a triple clamp stand for adjusting fork hieghts and things like that, but use the Graves 90% of the time.
proudsuperior 06-27-2007, 02:35 PM I have the Pit Bull Spooled rear stand and the Forklift and Converter Combination for the front for sale that I used on my 05' R1. Make me an offer...
BlueDevil 06-27-2007, 02:39 PM Here you go....... This stand is awesome.. cheep, well made, and folds up when not in use to save space....

R1formetoo 06-27-2007, 02:48 PM I forgot Graves in my list; they also make a very nice stand and should be included in my list of "quality stands." I just wish the rear stand was adjustable in width to fit all bikes and was adaptable to fit bikes that don't have spools in the swingarm. I mentioned to Chuck Graves in person once, upon his asking, and told him that I thought those were the only draw-backs to his stand. I don't think he was concerned because their GYTR stuff is only intended to fit Yamaha's to begin with and they do that quite well. I personally agree with Pit Bull that all stands made should be able to fit essentially any sportbike in any show room but hey, that's just my two cents.

Redgecko 06-27-2007, 05:02 PM No one has mention "Harris " who also make a nice stand. I use the spooled stand with Gillies lifters, nice and stable and easy to use solo. :thumbup

I have those stands as well and they are as good as anything I have ever used. I'm not bsing here either. I'm surprised they are as cheap as they are.

What stands did you go with?
Mine doesn't hit the plastic at all..... the pin should be the only thing touching anything on the bike.

the s spec gmp. i should have taken a pic when the bike was on the stands but i didnt think of it at the time
dbarocio1001 07-12-2007, 09:15 PM go to www.cyclecat.com
check out the UCS1 rear stand. i like it since it requires minimal effort and is ultra stable. lifts the bike right from the sidestand and props it up. simply awesome. a bit more pricey than regular stands, but if it prevents an accidental drop, then it pays for itself right there.

R1LOVER 07-12-2007, 09:34 PM Here you go.
If you need a better pic let me know, it's a little hard to see in this one.
R1LOVER 07-12-2007, 09:39 PM btw- what pin are you using? It comes with a few of them... make sure you are using the correct pin otherwise the stand may go all the way up into the light.... this is the only thing I can think of that would cause it to hit.
Cook 256North 07-13-2007, 12:25 AM do a search on pitbull stands, they are made here localy in huntsville, alabama by retired eng's, they sponsor me and our stunt team. if you can find there number call them up and mention you heard about them through the local stunt bike group "256North" and they should hook you up. you can also ask them about blem stands that sell for cheap cheap, just b/c they have a blem in the powder coating,............ these are the best deal.

thanks for the pic, yours is not even close to hitting i'm wondering if its just because yours is an 07 which seems to have less plastic under the headlight area than my 06. as for the pin only one pin that they sent me actually fits in the hole the rest are to big.any one else out there have an 04-06 using an s-spec head stand?
R1formetoo 07-13-2007, 08:23 AM You really should be careful using washers to shim that pin in the headstock. Keep in mind that as you do that the distance that the torque is applied over the length of the pin gets shorter and you run a greater and greater chance of bending the pin as you add washers to it.

There are a few people using them on the 04-06 too..... There should have been a little bag that included about 6 difference pins.... it would have been in the bottom of the box.
Can you take a close up picture of the bike on the stand?

yeah but it'll take me a little while, i have a 1 car garage and have my car, bike, toolbox, work bench, etc so i'll have to move a bunch of shit around. its a pain in the ass but it keeps my toys safe and dry:secret: . i know it came with other pins but like i said they do NOT fit in the hole ....its tooo big :sneaky :D . as far as using washers dont worry i'm not a complete noob i used 3 washers about 1/2'' high when stacked together theres still about 3'' left on the pin. altough when i seen that it still rubbed i wanted to stack that sumbeech 90% up the pin :banghead: .
R1LOVER 07-13-2007, 09:16 AM Just post them when you can, there has to be something wrong here as these pretty damn good stands... this shouldn't be happening. :)

Well before you put the bike on the front stand you should find the pin that fits nice & snug in the steering stem. Once you do that, remove the small (8mm?) bolt that clamps the brake line splitter. That way the brake lines can move freely and you can get them out of the way of the tube that actually supports the steering stem. If you don't do this you might be putting lots of pressure on the front brake lines (which you should definitely avoid). Once you make sure the brake lines are clear the bike lifts easily and steadily on the stand. The steering also moves pretty easily once you do this so you can do anything you need to the forks or front end of the bike.
There really should be around 1 inch of clearance or so.
Captain Squid 07-13-2007, 10:02 AM I use a redline rear stand and a pitbull stem lift when I need it. When my bike is in the garage it sits in the baxley sport chock and the rear stand. Never had any problems with any of them. All great products
saigono1 07-13-2007, 10:25 AM Hey I Noticed The Same Thing With My Front Stand!! The Lt/f Brake Hose Gets Crushed When I Put It On The Front Stand Via Steering Stem Pin. Seems Like A Pain In The Butt To Remove The Splitter Every Time You Need To Put Your Bike On The Stand. Do You Have Any Other Ideas As To What We Can Do To Avoid Crushing The Brake Line. Or Does It Even Matter?? I Mean Are We Creating Any Damage To The Line By Smashing It???

ok i figured it out, i admit i'm a tool :dundun: . when i selected a pin to use i picked the only pin that fit in the steering head hole BUT i checked the hole in the top hole ''up on the top triple'' instead of the lower actual mounting hole that the pin goes into. i wouldnt have guessed that the pin has two diff inside diameters. but in my defense:sing: the only pin that fits in the lower hole 100% up to the flange on the pin is the pin i was using come to find out the pin doesnt go all the way in just about 80% or so. now theres about a full inch of clearance:rock . thanks to all who tryed to figure this out for me:thumbup

Great news, I thought that may be what it was.... :drunk::drunk:
SpidermanSS 07-14-2007, 08:47 AM We use the Graves stands on all of our personal bikes and most of the project bikes that come through the shop, they are very stable, light weight and stackable if you have multiple pairs. I've never had a single problem other then sometimes when the shop is full there just isn't enuff :lol
Using a spool/stand combo helps to lock the bike securely in place also..
