Hi Guys
this is my first Post so be nice :)

I have a real problem Upshifting
I get no positive feel from the Shift lever on UpShift
DownShifts seem fine.

just wondering if all i have is a Broken Spring on the Shift Shaft or does it sound like a more serious problem.

Is It In All Gears? Or Just Swithing From 1st To 2nd?

In Any Case Its A Brand New Bike, I'd Take It Back To The Dealer To Check Out.

All Gears on the Upshift are not a smooth change.

normally when i shift gears i pre - load the shifter roll back on the throttle and slip of the clutch and the shifter feel like it is almost moving on it's own and the gear change takes less than a second.
Now when i upshift the shifter just feels like it is not going anywhere even though it has a smooth action up and down when i have checked it before going out .

MXPT-17,

I had an 04 R1 and I agree with you that is is alot harder to shift smoothly on the 07. I don't use the clutch AT ALL when I upshift. I just preload the shifter with my toe and blurp the throttle to shift.

After 3000 miles on my 07 I think I am finally getting used to it. I have noticed that with the fly-by-wire throttle, DECELERATION is extreemely sensitive. So much so, that I cannot find a throttle position that is not either accelerating or decelerating (It is very annoying). So I figured out that it takes alot less throttle motion to decelerate. So I have been trying to NOT untwist the throttle too much when shifting. I find that when I concentrate on VERY LITTLE throttle untwist when shifting, it goes alot smoother. Try this and let me know.

This is my first R1 so i don't have anything to compare it to.
But Until now my upshift using the clutch have been what i would consider smooth.
I have noticed the same thing as you the throttle is a little sensitive
so i have tried both rolling of it alot and a little has not changed the upshift feel.

I guess i could better descibe my upshift problem as feeling like
it's clicking between gears and then finding the gear.

Mine was like that at first. After getting rid of that yamalube crap and putting in some real oil it shifts flawless.Mobil 1 full synthetic.:rock

I changed the Oil to Motul 300v Factory Line 10w-40
seems a little better.

Because the gears are backcut , you will find that if yo give it a bit through the gears it will change smoother. Hard to do in Sydney with all the cops and radars but if you are using a constant throttle it will be notchy and clunk, If your accelerating it will change smooth.

I have given up on riding through the city to work as it uses alot of fuel sitting in those low gears and i find i need to really concentrate on the gear changes to make them smooth.
Since the oil change to Motul 300v Factory Line 10w-40 the bike has been running great with VERY smooth gear changes when you feed it some speed.

check your chain. sometimes the clanky upshifts is due to a loose chain.

does anybody else have problems with shift past neutral while the bike is not moving? if i park my bike in 1st and then try to shift into neutral to start the bike while i gear up, the bike won't shift, it gets stuck in 1st. it's also done it to me at a few stop lights while i've been in neutral.
