Hi,

This morning when I started my bike, after about 2 or 3 turns, when I would normally expect it to fire up, my bike let out an almighty BANG! not the sort of bang you would associate with a back fire but more one you would associate with a balloon popping. It doesn't seem to have had any ill effects, if anything she seems to feel a little bit smoother! Any ideas?

Also, my tyres are coming to the end of their lives, I currently run Pirelli Dragon super Corsa's but find they wear too much down the middle, I do a lot of Motorway riding, does anyone have any other suggestions? I was thinkning of 2CT's does anyone have any comparitive of the two tyres?

I don't know about the bang you explained, my bike sometimes back fires when coming down from high RPM's because it's a slip on exhaust and it needs sealing.

As far as tires, I have tried many over the years, and I ride my bike at least 60 - 90 miles per day and have Michelin Pilot Power and I love them, sticky and last a long time, I have put at least 4k on them so far and they are just a little over half worn, I ride hard on the throttle too.

The Pirellis are nice and sticky but I have managed to square them off after around 2k of riding :( Never happened on any of my other bikes before, but then the R1 does scare me a lot more than my 400!!!

Strange noises are hard to isolate and identify if they only happen once. Unless it happens again there's not much you can do about it.
