I used this last season, and for the price (£25) it's perfect. You just pick a reference point on a part of the track where you are flat out and press it each lap...then wonder why your times are crap.
The "beacon" type lap timers are fine if you can get close enough & noone nicks the transmitter. But then they do cost 10 times as much.
The only problem is getting it to stay in place as it's on elastic with velcro...hence the gaffer tape.

That was my thoughts on buying a beacon type timer, and so I went for the Sportcount like you. Haven't used it yet (only got it two months ago) but it seems damn good with a 56 lap memory. I was going to get the one that HPS sell but I think they only sell the black one which doesn't remember the lap times. Whats the point ? Ordered mine from the USA and it came down in 5 days.
Its more discreet than a beacon type too, which is an issue as some track day organisers won't let you lap time.
If anyone wants to buy one of these go for the yellow one, not the black one. It will provide you with relevant information.:thumbup
