Howdy folks, I'm starting this thread to handle lodging issues at the 2008 R1/R6 Convention. This will help out a lot, as we don't want to jam up the Official Convention thread. The idea here is to post in this thread any questions you have concerning lodging. The lodging will be primarily at Fontana Village.

Here's a link to the Official 2008 R1/R6 Convention thread:
www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214937 (http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214937)

Here is a link to the Fontana Village:
www.fontanavillage.com (http://www.fontanavillage.com)

Here is a link to see the Fontana's daily lodge & cabin rates:
www.fontanavillage.com/accommodations/accommodations.htm (http://www.fontanavillage.com/accommodations/accommodations.htm)

We do get discounted rates for all lodge rooms and cabins... To get these rates, you MUST call Fontana Village and tell them you are with the Yamaha R1-Forum Group. Ask to speak with Toni or Debbie in reservations. :fact

Here is Fontana Village's Phone number: (800) 849-2258

Book as early as possible. This event is getting bigger and bigger each and every year. I could see Fontana selling out well before the convention gets here. So don't wait... CALL THEM NOW!!! :)

One of the bigger reasons for this thread is a lot of us will be traveling solo or in small groups, but may still want to stay in the cabins so you are close to all the fun.

Some of the best times are just hanging out as seen here:
www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=204611 (http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=204611)

I am hoping to lock on a cabin, and will be looking for roomies to split the expenses. I don't want to be outside of stumbling distance... I mean walking distance from all the fun! :D

If you are looking for a roomie, or a room, or have space, post up in this thread. Please, let's try to stay predominantly on topic so we don't have folks going all over the place for lodging info.

So, post away with your questions and answers! This is going to be a great time! :fact :jump :boobies

I'm looking into booking soon to ensure a room. I read that alot of the guys really pack into rooms, with air matresses and guys on couches, etc. Maybe this thread can be used to help people that need lodging...saving people money.

Great post, I'll keep an eye out for this, I may have another comming with me.

Just confirmed a 2 BR Hemlock so I'll be looking for people to fill it or take it if Scott's offer is still good.

Right now they still have:

3 Hemlocks
2 3 bed Azaeleas
4 2 bed Azaeleas

And a bunch of motel rooms and dogwoods

Remember folks... there's a TON of gathering and activity up on the hill, and the closer you are the less you'll miss!

What kind of discount are we talking about? A certain % off of whatever cabin/room type booked? I want to go, but I might be able to get cabin's at a cheaper rate, but will not know those rates until next month.

So any information on how much the cabins will actually cost us as part of the forum will help tremendously (before splitting the cost for multiple people).

One more question - Which type of room/cabin would you guys recommend?

Any of them will be great. The Dogwoods don't have cable, air, or telephones, so I recommend one of the above.

I'll be calling again on Friday to check availability and ask the questions posted here. So if there are more questions, post away.

I still have the Azalia reserved, but I'd be more than happy to hang with y'all, Scott. Motorcycle parking will be fun there (we have to maintain a 10 foot perimeter around the Vmax, you know :lol)

Seriously folks, I'll be calling Friday to double check so if you have questions about lodging, please post away.

Depends on what comforts you want. Look at the Fontana web site.... they explain what each cabin has. Try to get as close to Shuckstack road as you can.

The more the merrier, Rob. There are all kinds of things going on, and tons of things for all to do.

The middle of the week is good, but the whole week is best if you can make it.

OK folks, this weeks updates from Ms. Tina (I really enjoy talking to those folks... so friendly and helpful):

5 Hotel rooms w/ 2 queen beds
18 rustic cabins
3 2 bedroom Azaelias (ac, cable, phone)
2 3 bedroom Azaelias (ac, cable, phone)
3 2 bedroom Hemlocks (ac, cable, phone)

and 2 3 bedroom Magnolias that will be available later in the week (18 June)

Also, don't forget that new to Fontana Village is a day spa, with licensed staff. So whether it's a little pampering for the other half, or some massage therapy for a rider who has been at it all day.

http://www.karingkarrs.com/ or 828-498-2090, or you can follow the link on the Fontana Village website.

Well... more in two weeks. Post your questions.

I'm calling tomorrow, and in addition to the availability, I'll be checking on the presence of phones in what types of lodging.

If anyone can think of anything they want to know between now and noon eastern standard time on the 5th, post it here or PM me (posting here is better, it may spark other questions). I'll be calling about 1 PM tomorrow to check on things since I have not done so in a couple of weeks.

Hey folks,

Rrwing from the R6-Forum (Nick H.) will be looking for a place to stay during the whole week. So if you have a cabin for the week or know of one, PM Rrwing, if you are on the R6-Forum as well, or myself (so I can edit this post). One person, arriving at the beginning of the week and staying until Saturday.

Nick is a US Marine Sergeant serving in Iraq right now, so PM me if you have room and I will relay e-mail addresses to put y'all in contact with one another.

Anyone else? Looking for a place or roommates to share the expenses, post up.

Just got off the phone with Ms. Lacy from Fontana. These are the availabilities:

5 Hotel rooms w/ 2 queen beds
18 rustic cabins (no phone, ac, etc)
4 2 bedroom Azaelias (ac, cable, phone)
2 3 bedroom Azaelias (ac, cable, phone)
3 2 bedroom Hemlocks (ac, cable, NO phone)

There are ongoing renevations, but they don't include adding phones to cabins that do not have them.

They have pay phones and house phones (use calling cards) in the lobby. And as we all know... cell phones don't work in too many areas.

OK. We are heading into the home stretch here. If you haven't reserved, DO IT NOW! Our block on the accomodations ends soon. Get your lodging locked on.

This is what is left from our block according to Ms. Donna at Fontana (really do like talking to these folks frequently :sneaky ):

10 regular lodge rooms
6 fireplace lodge rooms
9 2 BR Dogwoods
7 1 BR Willow
1 3 BR Magnolia
3 2 BR Laurel
3 2 BR Azaleaz
2 2BR Hemlocks

After our block date closes, these places will be up for grabs by anyone.

Looking for roomates or a room, post up. I'll start updating this more often until our block date closes.

I just paid Chad for my food and Tshirt. Let me know when you would like the money for the cabin. I'd like to pay for all the known expenses beforehand, so I can more freely spend money on "entertainment"

As for the other cabin thats bragging about having their own personal bartender...I will step up as the mixologist for our place. I put myself through my undergrad and masters degrees by bartending...so I should be able to handle anything you throw at me.

OK folks, I just rented the last Hemlock from the evening of June 15th, until morning of June 22nd (thank the mining gods for the bonus).

It's on the lower West Welch Road, so I imagine there might be some skinned knees after we are done drinking and stumble back from Shuckstack Road but it has everything (AC and TV) except telephone service ("... and cell phones don't work up here" I am told).

Anyone that needs lodging PM me.

I'm awaiting a response from Para and bigpunr1. Stormtrouper is trying Para as well, and I know the last we conversed about it he had room for one or so.

We get a few bucks off what is listed on their site. Not sure I can list them here, but they are on the website.

The lowest cost is the Dogwoods. There are plenty of them, but no A/C, no phone, no TV. Me personally, I gotta have that A/C to sleep.

Actually, those cabins are not bad at all during the night with the ceiling fan going. It gets pretty cool at night there. Last year it was in the 50's a few mornings. During the day your not in the cabin much anyway. All my roomies about froze me out of our cabin last year with the A/C. I think we had patchy frost throughout the inside of the cabin. :lol
