boy having that stealth pipe really made a big difference in appearance. The black scheme is actually perfect for this model R1. I use to have the 2002 Silver and although the silver was nice.. this black really holds up a unique feel. I'll tell you what, this design just like the 04 are aging very gracefully and are just stunning to look at. The little things you do to a bike makes a world of a difference.

Does anyone have a link to these stealth exhausts?? I currently have a D&D can and would like to change. How loud would it be compared to the pipe that I have now? I have had exup valve issues so I have wired it open, thus making the D&D even louder! Thanks in advance. Magee

I just switched mine over about 3 weeks ago because I loved the look, and it did look great and sounded killer too. The only problem was I lost a ton of power in all ranges and I could get past that! Put the ol Akra back on.

Not completely true. Dyno results pulled from the MCM (http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100536) thread. My stock are 139.09 and with a k&n filter / V stacks / Ackra slip on I'm getting 143.38. With the MCM / Filter / Stacks I'm getting 145.27 All figure are taken from 11K rpm. All dyno are run on the same machine as but on a different day for the MCM dyno. Stock and Ackra dyno are run on the same day. Thanks Michael

So what's the consensus on the exhaust? It looks sweet but do you loose much HP? I have a blue 03 and would love to do a short. I cut my stock pipe in half because i don't like the long pipes on the side. I have never checked to see how much mine puts out after i cut it.

The MCM is a nice add on. I bought mine pre owned, but I wouldnt have a problem spending the money on one new, with MCM, I think its cool that a small hands on vendor exist, and its not bad product, regardless of whether it can be copied or not.

05-16-2008, 06:24 PM
So, I just picked up my 03' LE about a week ago. I had no idea I was buying such an exclusive bike. I LOVE it though. Looks so amazing! Anyway, forgive my ignorance but what is the purpose of the baffle? The previous owner removed his Yosh exhaust, and the bike now only has it's headers and mid pipe. He and I both prefer the sound this way. I'm wondering if the baffle provides some sort of back pressure, whatever little it may be, or if it's just there to reduce sound? I'm bout to head to Walmart and then to autozone to pick up some supplys. I'm gonna get a 45* down pipe, and some high temp matte black paint to paint it up.

Devil1
05-16-2008, 07:56 PM
Yeah the baffle creates backpressure and muffles the sound...slightly lol

JayIV
05-16-2008, 07:58 PM
Well, it's been without a baffle/muffler for this long, might as well leave it out anyway.

JayIV
05-16-2008, 08:03 PM
Hmm, Well, I went up to Autozone and got a couple of tips. I believe the mid pipe on the 03' R1 is 2 1/2'' OD, the biggest turn down I could find was 2 1/4'' ID. But, a 2'' ID turn down fits perfectly inside of the stock mid pipe. I wonder if this would suffice, creating just enough back pressure, less the baffle...? I'm gonna run back to Autozone and return all but the 2'' ID pipe. Then I'll try and find a 2 1/2'' ID pipe at the same time.

SWEET!....yes the le's rule, but i am biased!...i was using just an open turn down with no baffles,it seems to me the exup provides all the back pressure anyway, right?
