Powers race rails = :)!!

ok first off this is for an 07 R1, im sure most of you are already familiar that frame sliders for this year either require a bracket (which i didnt want) or require some cutting of the fairings (which i didnt mind as long as the product does its job). I bought the powers race rails from mccoys (which is a great site by the way) but am completely disatisfied and upset in the quality of this product. At first i didnt mind that the welds looked sooo shitty along with cutting of the fairings as long as it would do a great job protecting my bike, but when i tried to install it the fit was sooo terrible i just snapped. The long bolt (supplied my powers) pictured replaces the stock transmission bolt since the stock one is not long enough and the two black bolts replace the engine bolt on both sides as the stock one is not long enough as well. On the end of the supplied trans bolt it is a nut that is welded on one end which is just crap crap crap. The two pictured rubber things (which one i cut in half) was cut sooooo terribly i had to trim the them with scissors (which wasnt a task but very poor quality), in the picture i had already slightly trimmed the one on the right but you can see how off they are by looking at the one on the left too. the rubber pads are used to go between the bars and the frame where you tighted so that it doesnt scratch the frame. Look at the welds on the bars as well, their is so much welding rubbish all over it. what the hell!! this is like amateur work. this is crap crap crap. Oh hows the fitment you ask....CRAP!! the bolting areas arent properly flush with the frame with or without the rubber pieces!!!!! first i finger tighten the rails with the engine bolts just so that it stays in place, i didnt finger tighten all the way down, enough to just hold it up. Than i ran the powers trans bolt through and try to tighten both trans bolt and engine bolt evenly so that the rails would be flush on both sides but what do you know no matter what it just wont be flush. the gap on the rear trans mounting area of the rails is so big that the rubber pads cant even be tightened against the frame. Ok well why dont you run the trans bolt through the rails first and than put the engine bolts in, ok so i FINGER TIGHTEN the Powers trans bolt just so that it stays on and what do you know the engine bolt holes dont even line up, the rails not long enough!!! Heres the pics i posted of the quality of the product. I never took pictures of the process of putting it on since i didnt expect to have ANY PROBLEMS!!. what pisses me off a lot is that freestyle ingenuity still hasnt come out with their crash cage yet, they are still working on it so thats the reason i bought these powers stunt works products only to be dissapointed. im going to sell this crap and wait for FE to come out with theirs. Ok well thats about it, this took a damn while for me to write. hope these links work, if it doesnt let me know. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/racerailsoverallimage.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/powerslabel.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/engineboltetc.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/rubberpads.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/IMG_1049.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/IMG_1047.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/IMG_1046.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/IMG_1045.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/IMG_1044.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/IMG_1043.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/IMG_1042.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/IMG_1040.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/IMG_1039.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/IMG_1037.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z118/Daniel123588/transmissionbotl3.jpg

Buddy I really feel for you!!! I do not have any experience with that company or crash cages in general. But I have seen some crappy welding and guess what it looks just like that. Def one half ass kit thrown together by guys in a garage. The bolt is funny as shit. Are you telling me that you already cut your fairing on your 07. I would be so heated I prob would have called the company myself and raised holy @$#$#@ HELL!! Which by the way I recommend you do. I am sure if you called up MCCoys and explained them your extreme issue they would prob take that shit back. If that does not work call the company directly. One way or another I would not waste my time trying to sell it. I would get my money back one way or another. Again i really feel for you and I hope you get everything worked out.

of course i didnt cut my fairings yet, if i did that first i would have gone ape sh!t haha well anyway i havnt bothered to get a refund nor to even call. Im just the kind of person to just sell it and learn my lesson. im probably going to just sell it for like $50 bucks hopefully or something i dont know. maybe i will call but things like this usually dont end up so well so yeah. Hope it helps some people. oh by the way im not saying anything is wrong with mccoys, i order everything from them. just the powers stunt works company seems to be having quality issues.

alright well i emailed powers and mccoys to see what can be done. i will post here regarding their replies. i actually asked for a refund for just the rail amount without shipping and will just take the loss. Im hoping that i dont get another replacement rails because im just not happy with the company. Also there was also another individual gvillefloridaR1 that i was speaking to before i ordered these since he had them but he said his fitment was fine, i told him to look at my thread regarding the quality of the welds and overall quality. alright well thats it for now.

Alright lets see, bart from Mccoys called me first thing this morning and had spoke to powers regarding the situation. I was referred to "kevin" from powers who probably runs the business and had a talk with him. He acknoledged the problem and is taking action to getting things solved. He will send out another set of rails to me and ask that i return the old rails upon receiving the new one. it was obvious through our conversation that it just so happened that i got a defected one in terms of craftmanship but he truly stands behind his products and for that i am relieved. I will post pictures of the new one as soon as it arrives. Im very pleased in both mccoys and Powers customer service, everything was resolved in a matter of 24 hours of sending my emails out. im greatly looking forward to the new sets coming in.

Alright those that are still interested. I just received my new set of rails yesterday (2-7-08). It looks far way better than the sets that i had, welds are much better and none of that weld platter stuff. I also fit it on with no problem today (2-8-08), only took a couple of minutes. I think the first set i had was really a defected one because the fit was no where near the same on this new one. Thanks a lot to Bart from mccoys and Kevin from Powers stunt worx, all my problems were solved in just about 2 weeks or so. Im very pleased with their customer service. I would recommend the rails to anybody as well, install is very simple and straight forward but like mentioned in GvilleFloridaR1's post that it does require a little cutting of the fairings. Hopefully the moderator can changed the title of this thread, i dont mean to hurt powerstuntworx reputation. i will post pics soon for those that are interested.

this is all so interesting. It's amazing the power of this forum. I'm trying to think what it would be like riding without a venue like this for all of us to communicate and make our experiences better on and off the track on two wheels!

I think, as daniel123588 has pointed out, that the best way to handle these situations is to contact the manufacturer or retailer first. See if they will take care of you, or give you the shaft. Either you get a new part that is of acceptable quality for the price, or you get a refund. If they decide to just tell you it is what is is, then you can start warning people on this forum about a product to avoid. In this case, it looks like the metal was too dirty to weld, the settings on the welder were incorrect, or they used the wrong wire in the welder. This new one looks like someone spent a long time hand grinding the welds to make them look good. I think Powers would be better off getting a better welder, or improving their skills. If enough people return the item for exchange and/or enough sets have to be hand grinded, then it doesn't make much business sense to continue down that path. It is cheaper to get a new welder and improve the quality. For examples of a good weld (without grinding or powder coating), look at any Pitbull product. Awesome. I am sure Powers doesn't mean bad - with enough people exchanging items, they will realize that they have to improve the product to be able to grow as a business, which is good for everyone. Derek

i had a cage on my old gsxr 600 from them was excellent quality, i bought one that i though was for my 06 r1, so after i got done putting on my other parts i bought today i think hell the cage is only gonna take 25 minutes. so i follow the first step remove the trans bolt and left engine bolt, pretty easy, then there instructions are to mount the cage to teh bike, and lo and behold the cage is to damn long, so if i am going to run the cage by the looks of it ihave to tap into my cylinder heads. so im going to return it and get the fe cage now..

Wow, talk about great customer service response. I dug this post up because I was looking into buying a set of Race Rails. After reading page 1, I almost closed the window and decided NOT to get them...but luckly kept reading to see the outcome.
