rorlow 02-02-2008, 03:51 AM My 2002 has been an ongoing project from day one, original owner, got her in Feb 2002, all the work except for paint has been done by your's truly. Have had thoughts of getting rid of her several times, but will probably never part with her. She's been with me thru good & bad times and still runs & handle's remarkably.
I'm kind of old school and prefer the side exit exhaust vs. the undertail, and she still brings a smile to my face when I look at her & ride her, besides at my age I'll never use it to its full potential. With all thats gone into her so far it would be hard to part with it & start over.
Photo's from couple stages of her development below-

Redgecko 02-02-2008, 07:16 AM Really nice Ron, :bow I can understand with that much time and money invested that it would be hard to ever get rid of her. Anyway we need to show these young un's we still know what it's all about :flex: :lol

CosmoK 02-02-2008, 10:07 AM Super ride and great attitude toward your invesment. So many guys on these sites get the newest models just have the latest & greatest and then wind up selling it after a year with 5k in mods. Anything to get that extra 4hp the new model claims as head and shoulders over last years bike. The bike mags are the worst for this and I swear must get money from the bike manufacturers for stirring the pot every year. It is refreshing to see how much work and dedication went into your ride and the reality of enjoying it because most of us will never touch the potential of our bikes.
Very nice bike. Your bike is a inspiration to many of us that appreciate an art piece such as yours. It shows that hard work pays off.
The details are amazing.

First off, as always, absolutely stunning bike, brother.
Second off, I thought the same thing about mine.....until I found the real thing.
I'm picking up my R7 on Feb 15th, and it should be in my garage by the 20th.
Over the next few years, she's going to become a TRUE Haga replica. :sneaky

Dynomite in the UK makes it, they also make a vented version of my front fender and a vented rear hugger with the gold mesh. I've dealt with Matt & the guys at Dynomite for over 5yrs and highly recomend them. All their parts are exceptional quality & fit, the Dynomite CF on my bike is 5yrs + and still looks new :bow

m8 your only as young as you feel. first time i saw Seaquest DSV and saw Roy Scneider riding this sportsbike, thought to myself i wouldn't mind getting to that age riding (my favorite past time) my sportbike (whatever that will be at that stage).

Black ano alloy countersunk bolts (for the CF gas cap assembly)
yes . . . cabin fever intiated Ti madness :hammer:
still have to put the HRC tubing on, and pull my kick-stand for the mock up of the one-off Ti kickstand being made :sneaky
gypsyjack 02-28-2008, 04:30 PM Check out the Fast Bikes dvd. This guy gets to ride the most bad ass bikes in the world and his fav is Hagas R7. It's always been the class of the sportbike and it's just a shame that Yam. doesn't build it anymore. Though it hasn't been available to the public for years can you imagine what it might be like today? It's the reason Suzukis 750 is so many riders fav.
CosmoK 02-28-2008, 07:23 PM Very classy ride.
RomeoOne07 02-29-2008, 07:27 AM coming from an old school carbie '94 blade to a fuel injected 03 R6 (had been 10 years before i rode after the blade) and realising that 600 cc class has the same power of bikes that were 10 years older and bigger. apart from that they also handled better and were lighter. now im on a 07 R1, omfg when i hit that throttle vrrrrrrrrooooommmmmmmmm. so bloody fast and yet handles beautifully. makes me wonder why i didn't cut my balls off when i married my wife and she made give it up until now. lol

Lord Melch 03-30-2008, 07:15 AM What's that Ron ? Some sort of Toe chain guard (to stop a errant foot getting chomped) ?
Not sure on the big chunk of white plastic..kind of hides the beauty of the sprocket..
I had similar on my 98/99 but not seen one on the top of the swingarm..

The teeth on top of the swingarm holds the chain when doing a wheel/tire swap, and the white plastic disc helps guide the chain onto the sprocket. Both of these bits came about as a result of endurance racing wheel swaps in pit stops :thumbup
I have the shark fin on the bottom of my swinger similier to yours, to help keep fingers & toes intact :hammer:

my fabricator has the Ti stock, but he's trying to just get some sample Ti welding rod rather than buy a whole can of rods. He doesn't do alot of Ti welding and the Ti rod is extremely expensive, kind of hard to justify several hundred bucks worth of rod for a couple kickstands :crash
I'm trying to be patient with him because he has my best interests in mind, as well as my budget, but I'm getting antsy for my bits. Will definately post up photo's & pricing when I get it and the chain holder :thumbup

Hey rorlow, something I've wondered since I see you have the lifters and spools. Do you use both? Which do you use when you change a tire? And if you were to use the lifters when you take your axle out, what keeps those in place other than the original adjuster bolt? As always..Thanks!
xdonniedarkox 07-27-2008, 12:07 PM I use both. Slider protection, and in the event a mechanic doesnt have the appropriate lifter kit to use I have what Ron has too...
rorlow 07-27-2008, 04:17 PM Hey rorlow, something I've wondered since I see you have the lifters and spools. Do you use both? Which do you use when you change a tire? And if you were to use the lifters when you take your axle out, what keeps those in place other than the original adjuster bolt? As always..Thanks!
I use the lifters for chain maintenance and when I pull the rear wheel. I prefer to use the lifters as they are more stable than the spools, and the rear stand sits further aft for easier access to wheel. There are 3 bolts that hold the chain adjusters on, one where the OEM adjuster bolt used to be, and 2 at the rear that tighten the front and rear backing plates. I use the Sato delrin spools as Dylan said, for emergency use and as a slider :thumbup
Thanks for posting the pic of your rear ;) I see how it sandwiches on the swingarm. I've never seen a set in person so I didn't see how it tightens in the rear, thought it might only have that front bolt holding it in.

I've had mine on for almost 5yrs., like Dylan said its an excellent & purposeful update. It eliminates the possibility of stripping the oil pan threads, it also eliminates the mess of spilt oil on exhausts etc. I'd highly recomend it :thumbup

Update on our Ti kickstands- I apologize man, it's taking forever to get these fabbed, latest is we now have found a local aircraft welder, and have the Ti stock, but still having problems getting the welding rod. The expense of a whole box of rods is hard to justify for a couple kickstands ($400+ box of rods) for my mechanic, so he's still trying to get some sample rods from the welding company. I know . . . its been in the works since spring :rant
My 2nd. bit, the Ti chain holder has now been switched to anodized billet, and we are thru the 3rd-4th prototype, having some difficulty getting it to sit correctly on the swingarm & hold the chain properly. The 1pc route isn't working so my mechanic is now cutting & welding a small section of a sprocket to a bracket. After its done its off to be anodized red, like the example in pics on previous page. It also doesn't help that I'm a perfectionist :crash

Its called a BikeBrace, all 1/4" steel plate, 1/2" at the axle guards, 1 1/2" hardened steel rod thru rear wheel which is padlocked inside welded lock box. There are 6 epoxied concrete ground anchors thru the unit into the concrete. The rear tire sits on top of the anchors. I also use a heavy duty OnGuard hex chain thru the front wheel bolted to a welded SST eyebolt anchored & epoxied into the concrete. She also stays covered at all times with the non-discript gray Dowco cover. I also keep a disc lock on the front rotor. close. I'm interested in the circled area from a lying on your back perspective. I was just interested to see if you guys have a little guard by the oil screw.

I can't get the bolt from the 14mm kit in, due to the little guard being in the way. I just thought that maybe I got the wrong size or something. Guess just my luck is that it doesn't fit. Was it a tight fit, when you were putting yours in?
xdonniedarkox 08-31-2008, 08:32 PM Yes, I had to use a open face wrench carefully so not nurl the unit. Nothing to trip on, purposeful mod and make oil changes way easier...

marcaztls 09-02-2008, 07:45 AM Hey there rorlow :)
Frstly, top work on your bike, very very nice indeed :thumbup
Just one quick question, I couldn't make it out from your list of mods on the first page (to be honest my eyes were going funny reading through them!) but what make are your frame bungs? Mine are Harris, shown here:
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o128/marcaztls/FrameBung1.jpg
I was given them by a friend who had them for his '98 which has a 'flatter' frame around that area than ours and from what I can tell in your pictures yours sit flat. Mine obviously don't. I painted the rear of mine black and it's not so obvious but I'd like to keep my eye out for a set that sit flush and yours seem to fit the bill perfectly.
Thanks in advance :)

A long time ago I had the Harris too, and the Pro-Bolt, but like you said with the compound curves of the frame they just stuck out too far for me too.
About 5yrs ago I worked in an injection molding facility, we made the plugs you see on my bike out of Delrin. They are actually plugs for the rust proofing openings in car doors & body panels, they rust proof the car than stick those in the holes to seal the hole. I took a few and massaged them to fit flush, than siliconed them in.
Was trying to get a couple hundred for everyone on the forum, but the company closed before I could get them :rant

Here is a pic where you can see some plugs that I got from my local True Value store. They are in the Hardware Dept. in those little boxes of assorted bolts, nuts, pins, clips, etc. maybe they would fit the bill for you :dunno

marcaztls 09-03-2008, 01:46 AM Thanks very much for the replies and the tips both rorlow and Redgecko, much appreciated.
I have access to a lathe and some delrin :sneaky Might well be a little something to kill a day over Winter :)
In the meantime I'll keep an eye out for some and start checking around hardware stores when I'm in them for something like you suggested Redgecko :thumbup
Also nice to know in advance that the Harris and Pro-Bolt ones also stick out for the 02-03 models. Cheers for the heads up!
rorlow 09-18-2008, 03:28 AM adding a Harris stator side lower slider, same as pic except the slider holder is anodized black instead of natural billet, should be here next week, will post pics after install. Will go aft of the woodcraft case cover in the swingarm pivot :thumbup
marcaztls 09-18-2008, 03:48 AM Great choice Ron. I watched an R1 the same model as ours lowside up a track in front of me going pretty quick and all he damaged other than his R&G sliders inc. the equivalent of the Harris one you're putting on, was his bar end and clutch lever.
Since then my bike's had ever crash protector R&G make on it. :)
It'll look good matching your clutch side one too :)

my last crash was on that side, the woodcraft cover worked great, only thing that got scratched was the SST skid plate, but my rearset got bent pretty good on that side & had to replace a few parts on it, figure the slider might have helped :thumbup
Thinking of selling the red ano front axle sliders (mock endurance cups) and replacing with delrin axle sliders :secret:

I like the look of your cups but the delrin sliders do make sense. I have the R&G ones on mine:

Fork bottoms are getting repainted this Winter before anyone says anything about the state of them :secret:
Only thing I would say though is that the stainless bar they come with that goes through the axle to mount the sliders on is pretty heavy, 120gr. I made a good quality aluminium one to replace that on mine. It may not be as strong though and I feel a bit guilty everytime I take it out. One day it'll get replaced with a Ti one hopefully :)

Unfortunately Indysuperbikes, Kneedraggers & EMA no longer carry the Harris line, so yes, went direct to Harris Performance in the UK :thumbup
my god mate . . . did you at least pay the airline freight on mums extra bags :hammer: :lol

rorlow 09-18-2008, 05:12 PM Mark- here's the two different peg styles for the Harris rearsets, when I crashed I could no longer locate the race foot pegs, only the newer road style pegs. I actually prefer the less aggressively knurled race pegs, the race pegs are no longer listed on the Harris site :thumbup
race pegs are photo's #1 & 2
road pegs are photo's #3 & 4
Redgecko 09-18-2008, 07:37 PM Ron, is the one you are ordering going to match what you already have or is it the shape of mine ?

Hey Ron, you're right Harris no longer do those style of pegs :( I've been asked this before.
They now only manufacture the exact new ones you already have or these. A slightly shorter peg, 75mm not including the boss, and with a small (and frankly useless as it wears through in no time) delrin plug in the end.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o128/marcaztls/DSC02217.jpg
I'll have a look through my catalogues and see if there's anything I can match with the pegs you're after but it seems most of the manufacturers over here are actually if anything copying the Harris style pegs you already have. I'll shout up if I find anything :)
marcaztls 09-19-2008, 01:49 AM Actually I think I may have found one of my suppliers already that do them, 2nd book I went to!
Their picture isn't great but the description is sounding good so I'll email them a picture of yours and let you know what they say :thumbup

I kind of figured that was the story, not worth swapping for the newer style race as they're basically the same as the road versions I have now. Do you know if the Harris pucks are interchangeable, old style for new? I may need to get a new clutch side puck to match the new stator side one I just bought (so they match) :secret:
thanks for your help mate :thumbup

To be honest I prefer the style you have now over their newer ones as their that bit longer and better to get a grip on I find.
As for the pucks I've not personally had to swap new to old etc. but they do look very similar when I've fitted them. I can give them a call if you'd like and find out? :)

that would be great, if they fit I'd like to buy a clutch side puck only (if they sell seperate), if not I may have to bite the bullet & get a new style for the clutch side :thumbup

I noticed you got both your logo's on your pucks to line up horizontally, I tried for about an hour on my clutch one and gave up & pulled the logo sticker off, having OCD is a bitch sometimes :hammer: :lol

:lol :lol Actually it wasn't too bad, just screw the puck in and mark the base with a sticker for up, remove the puck, attach with sticker up and when the puck screws back in you have it :flex:
As for the puck you need to make a match, if you are getting it from the Uk check the price plus shipping then compare to Kneedraggers they have a complete clutch side in my style for $49.00, that might still be a cheaper route :dunno:dunno

your just lucky my arthritus is acting up . . . where's my damn cane :chair:
a day in the life of the elderly-
Ethel was a bit of a demon in her wheelchair, and loved to charge around the nursing home, taking corners on one wheel and getting up to maximum speed on the long corridors. Because the poor woman was one sandwich short of a picnic the other residents tolerated her and some of them actually joined in.
One day Ethel was speeding up one corridor when a door opened and Kooky Clarence stepped out with his arm outstretched. "STOP!," he shouted in a firm voice. "Have you got a license for that thing?" Ethel fished around in her handbag and pulled out a Kit Kat wrapper and held it up to him. "OK" he said, and away Ethel sped down the hall.
As she took the corner near the TV lounge on one wheel, weird Harold Popped out in front of her and shouted "STOP! Have you got proof of Insurance?" Ethel dug into her handbag, pulled out a drink coaster and held it up to him. Harold nodded and said "On your way, Ma'am."
As Ethel neared the final corridor, Crazy Craig stepped out in front of her, Butt- Naked, and holding his "You-Know-What" in his hand. "Oh, good grief," yelled Ethel, "Not that Damn Breathalyzer Test again.!!!"

My mechanic/shop owner bud still hasn't gotten the ti rod, so now he's looking at making it 2pc, and just machining it. He's been really busy as he just reopened his business this year, and he's looking at getting a pro race team together again. Its taking forever to get the kickstand & the swingarm chain holder made, I guess with age comes patience, I've been trying to get this ti kickstand fabricated for over 2 yrs now, and he's the 4th person I've talked to about it :lol
