Gear transport, ride and lodging offer.

It's official, my g/f and I have gone our separate ways so I'll more than likely be headed to the Gap solo. That being the case... I have room for one or possibly two more people in the motor-home if you still haven't found a place to stay (it sleeps six but only has three beds and one is more child sized than adult sized). It also has seating (with seat belts even) for 11 if you just need a ride down. I can only transport my bike with the setup I have now (hitch platform) but can pull a three or four bike trailer if you have access to one and a hitch ball for it. I'm also making the same offer as last year to transport gear down to the Gap from the NE area if you have a small vehicle or are going down by bike. The M/H has a "full basement" with tons (literally) of storage space. The plan is to leave East Central PA on Saturday morning (the 14th) using routes 78W and then 81S, 81S through Virginia and Northern TN, Route 40 into NC and then to Fontana. I'd be willing to take alternate routes if needed (within limits) to pick people up. There'll be an overnight stay somewhere and the hope is to check in at Fontana Sunday morning. I'll be headed back the following Sunday morning (the 21st) and arrive back in PA early Monday AM. The gear transport is free, if you want to ride down and stay I'm just asking that you split the cost of fuel and campground rental. (last year's total for me was around $900 for the trip but gas prices are higher right now)

Thanks Stu, Yeah, it was a mostly amicable split and we are still on friendly terms. The big risk you take when starting a relationship with someone who has young children is that if it ever comes down to it, you'll always come in second. Apparently her 14yo son was having problems in his new school and rather than get him to adjust his attitude to where he could get along she decided to move back to his old school district. Oh well, I can deal...

do you have room for more then one bike? Like I said, we'd have to get a trailer. Right now I have a hitch rig for the back of the M/H that carries my bike but for more than one I'd have to rent or find a trailer. PM me and we'll see if we can work something out.

How short we talkin? Will you be close to tha cabins @ Fontana? The remaining berth is a fold down dinette area, 5'1" x 4". Six foot even if you measure diagonally. The campground is about a mile and a half from the cabin's on Shuckstack, about a 90 second ride but a really long uphill walk. HBK3 has dibs on it right now unless he comes up with another plan.

I am going to ride down and plan to backpack it with limited supplies. But other options available, a duffle bag would be nice.

Heading down Saturday morning from Auburn, PA. You could meet me somewhere on 81 and stow your gear if you want. But if you're up by Lexington it'd probably be easier and a lot shorter for you to just head South on 75. I won't get anywhere near that far west.
