YES! You should all be wearing back protectors whether on the track or street. Back injuries are just like eye injuries. Once it happens it can cost you the rest of your life. Don't take it for granted.
Don't use that excuse of a sponge already in your suit/jacket fool you into thinking it's a back protector...it isn't and most racing organizations won't allow that as sufficient protection either.
The Bohn is by far the best I've used so far. I have tried Alpine Stars and D-tech as well. The Bohn is a direct copy of the Knox and both are excellent pieces. They are thin and offer scapula and kidney protection which others don't. Shoulder/clavical injuries are the most common to bikers. While this may not save your clavical it will help your shoulder blade. They even offer them in different sizes for tall/short people and a "hot weather" version which breathes. Hell, they even come in matching colors for your bike/leathers if your that vain. As I said they are thin, light and don't limit range of motion of arms or neck. My Alpine Stars liked to climb up my back while riding and inhibit me from looking up as far as I could while in tuck position as my neck would hit it. A dangerous situation should I have a get-off. The Bohn has no such problem. They range from $130-$200 but it's the cheapest $100-$200 you'll spend in protective gear next to gloves.
Bottom line, you should be wearing a back protector and the Bohn is a very good choice.
