Do the pureONE pl14610 & pl14612 work on the 07-08's also? And what are the differences between using the 2.5" and 3.5"? Thanks for the replies

I am not sure about the 07-08, but my 04 uses PL14612. Don't think they would have changed that.

I use the PL14612 and it's a touch longer than the OEM filter, but doesn't pose any clearance problems. The longer filter, PL14610, may. S.

So you guys have been happy with the Purolator? I've heard good things about them on this site, so I finally decided to try one. I got one of the longer ones, so I'll post up here if I have any clearance issues (07 R1--stock header).

Installed the Purolator Pure One 14610 last night (07 R1). It is the longer one; about 3/4-in. longer than stock. There is no problem with clearance; there's still at least 3/4-in. clearance to the header (stock header). I like the fact that it gives me a higher oil capacity, especially since I've got some pretty bad clattering from the engine for the first 2-4 seconds after start-up. The noise goes away completely after oil pressure builds. I've been told it's the bottom-end bearings. I switched to Castrol Full-Syn 5w40 instead of conventional Castrol 10w40 in hopes that the lower cold viscosity will allow oil pressure to build faster and reach those bearings.

UPDATE: Clattering is the cam chain tensioner (not bearings, thank goodness).

Cool! DanQ has a link to a self adjusting chain tensioner for the R1. Oh, NICE! I need to look into that. Thank you for posting that.
