SNOW GO AT BRANDS HATCH 06 April 2008 The opening round of the 2008 Bennetts British Superbike Champoinship was cancelled today (6 April) due to unseasonal heavy snow. The weather conditions took a dramatic change for the worse, from glorious spring sunshine for the free practice sessions on Friday to heavy snow all day today. Karl Harris had qualified the Rob Mac Racing Yamaha in third place, after a strong performance through free practice and qualifying. Although disappointed with the cancellation of race day, the safety of the riders was paramount to the decision taken by team managers and MSVR. Series Organisers, Motorsport Vision Racing worked hard all morning to clear the snow covered circuit but the weather conditions worsened as the day unfolded. At 11.15 the organisers were forced to abandon the meeting that has now been rescheduled for the weekend of 10/11 May2008 Grids for all the races within the BSB programme will be as set on Saturday 5th April during qualifying. Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive, MotorSport Vision: "It is bitterly disappointing for al the fans who have come and of course for all the teams and organisations including the Brands Hatch team who have put so much into this weekend. Apart from the inability to put on the great show the fans expect from BSB, safety is our number one priority and this must not be compromised." Rob McElnea, Team Principal: "Obviously we are bitterly disappointed that all our hard work will not see it's conclusion this weekend, but the conditions are just too bad to race in. The correct decision has been made to abandon the meeting and Karl will get to line up on the front row at the re-scheduled event in a month or so. We have seen the pace of Karl now and we move on to Thruxton, a circuit we know suits our bike even better."
