Just a word of warning concerning these protectors. My friend had a set fitted to his R6, they are the type that fit at the swing arm pivot. He & I both had an "off" on a recent trackday. Mine was fairly high speed (lowside), and I had RG-Racing protectors on (upper & lower). I was very impressed with the protection that these offered under the circumstances. His "off" was a very low speed (hairpin bend) lowside. I'd estimate his speed at about 10-15 MPH. His protector snapped straight off, and his bike was damaged. The protectors look very pretty, but the diameter of the bolt is insufficient (IMO). Needless to say, he has contacted the manufacturers who have been about as much use as a condom machine in the Vatican!

Cheap too - about $15. I'd love to see how they failed. Eric

Thanks for the offer - but his broken parts are back with Motrax (what's the betting they get "lost"?), and the argument's ongoing. I'll post the results back here, but the latest was Motrax weren't being very helpful!

That sucks. You'd think that with such an inexpensive part that they'd just send you another one and be done with it. Instead, they'll rack up enough phone bills and headaches to pay for it 10 times over. Just doesn't make sense... Good luck! Eric:beer PS - Where in the Midlands are you? I was in Shropshire last summer as my friend lives in Telford (owns a bike training business there)

Hi Eric, I'm in a place called Solihull in the West Midlands. I'm about 10 miles out from Birmingham. My friend wants Motrax to contibute towards the repairs (bit of paint), but I'm not holding out much hope for him!!! Safe riding Dude! Mark

I ate dinner one night in B'ham. It was near the downtown area along a small river that went through a shopping area. Braod Street Station maybe? Broad something. Shitty food and great beer as I remember. Eric

Yup that'd be Broad Street - probably the trendiest place to go out on a Thu - Sat night (if you like that sort of thing). It's better to go a couple of miles out to eat unless it's something like the Mongolian Bar (awesome food!). The station you're thinking of is probably New Street? Small world eh Eric? Have a good weekend Bud Mark

We went on a Friday night and it was packed. Ate late and still had to wait in line for a table. I'd much rather have eaten further out like you suggest. Well, next time I will. I go to Europe about every other summer for a bike trip and always include a trip to B'ham as part of the trip. It's really no tourist mecca, but the guy that loans me the bikes lives there so I have no other choice;) You'll hav eot arrange a trip to the USA (maybe the East Coast R1 Forum meet in North Carloina?) and ride here a bit with us. Quite a bit different type of riding than you have there, but just as much fun. Eric

Please note that I have just tested these on my R1 (came with bike) it was a 0mph drop on sheet ice trying to get out of a gutter and they snapped straight off, cant say much for their protection at speeds above 0 MPH!! BTW you couldnt use a bigger bolt as it runs through the swingarm spindle and you would have to drill this out further. I am getting the harris/Rg type now!

The Motrax sliders? Hard to believe that they'd break at zero MPH - but I'm sure weirder things have happened. Hope the bike is okay! Eric

Hope you guys can help. I have been looking for some frame protectors for my 01 R1 and the only ones I can find need you to drill the fairing. Does anybody know of any that 1. Work (see Marks comments) and 2. Do not need any fairing mods? BTW Mark have you been to Dave and Busters in Solihull? Great night out with a few mates/beers.

I tested the ones that bolt through the swingarm, the £80 top block jobbies, the bolt that runs through the arm snapped clean in two, it is clearly not strong enough to take the weight of the bike, and yes it was all from standstill (on ice). Bike is ok, bust brake lever and slight ding on the lowers. Bit of an arse as I was planning on putting a race fairing (with light cutouts)on it. I have emailed motrax for an explanation but had no response. I think I am going to get either some harris or RG ones at the show

You could look at the HPS ones that mount on a bar in front of the engine, look for their ad in PB or SB mags. Ross

I'd recommend you drill the fairing to be honest. If you do it right, it looks good. If you introduce a bracket to avoid drilling, it's my opinion that you're introducing an element of weakness. I went to D&B's some time in '97 I think, and haven't been back since - not really my cup of tea to be honest, I thought everything was a bity of a rip-off. If you could get some sort of work sponsored or corporate hospitallity night there, then I'd probably take more interest ;)

please note that I have had a reply from motrax, they have had 'the bolt modified' and have agreed to provide me with replacement sliders. I will let you know what the modified bolt looks like when I get it!

I have the same sliders, and i wrote to motrax in England, asking to this problem. They wrote back that these top blocks are one of their top sellers, and have never had any complaints! Further more they said that these products are tested to the highest standard before putting them on the market.
