R1on1weel 04-17-2008, 03:24 PM Hello, I am in desperate need of a tire for my 1999 Yamaha R1 and I can pick up a Dunlop qualifer 200/50/17 for a great price. Will this fit on my bike?? If it doesn't it will hit my chain if anything I know I have swingarm clearance but is the install possible with no modifications?? you can also email me at denisdupont@hotmail.com Thanks alot guys:fork
Skeeter 04-18-2008, 05:53 PM It should fit the stock rim, but forget about having fun on twisty roads. Good for posing.
R1on1weel 04-18-2008, 06:16 PM thanks for the reply man!!:thumbup what do you mean by posing?? I am not into the track that much, i just got the bike a few months ago and Im just having fun on the bike. Pretty much wheelies and stoppies, I will probably grow out of it but for now I need a chaep tire and I can get 200's for cheap (Qualifier 200/50/17 = 125$ new)

Sitting on the bike and talking smack, bling bling, bike nights, chrome, wheelies, stoppies, riding without the proper gear and stuff like this. Most guys with a 200 series tire on a R1 are these type of riders. With a 200 rear tire the bike can't do what it was built to do. I'm not saying it's bad to do this and everyone has their own groove, but most of the guys on here not into it. You should try finding a group of guys who can show you what street and track riding is all about and learn from them.

he is rite. but im not a poser. i run a 200 tire on a 2001 r1 and it will fit on the stock rim and no it wont hit the chain. i put the 200 on for looks only but at the same time extended and lowered it also. i ran a 190 before and it handles easier than tryin to force the wider 200 tire to lean in a turn. as soon as bike week is over im replacing the tire wit a 190, taking the extensions off, and raising it back to stock height.
R1on1weel 04-25-2008, 06:15 PM Wow, not to be offensive but you sound like the poser by trying to put me down but thats ok, did I mention I just got my first bike (the R1) a couple months ago. Anyways I got a set of michelin pilot powers and the rear is a 190 50

Congratulations on your new R1--I know you are loving it.
Excellent tire choice.
I have never been let down by a Michelin Pilot Power.
Almost no warm up time is required, and grip is consistent and predictable, even down past the wear bars with the tire worn slick.
Not to mention, it is one of the best wet weather tires out there.
However, the 2CT has experienced some quality control issues in the last year that have yet to be resolved, but I am blathering now.
Happy riding.
stever86 05-07-2008, 08:34 PM I have a 200 on my 2000 r1 and hate it
chipofsc 05-24-2008, 08:22 PM A 200 tire wants to go straight. When you try to turn the bike will fight you. Just know this before you go hauling ass around a turn.
xdonniedarkox 05-25-2008, 12:12 AM Not that ideal for stunting either... go easy, and ride with gear.
