So, the new classes and structures for the 2009 AMA racing season have been released. Short story - they suck.

Since this is a WSBK forum, I figured its at least somewhat related.
600 Superstock - gone, but that was already decided by AMA last year
600 Supersport - gone. What? That is historically the best racing and the best marketing opportunity for manufacturers.
Daytona Superbikes : The new Premier Class. Horsepower and weight limited, but will support a wide variety of engine configuration. But a Premier Class that is horsepower and weight limited. This is an attempt to get the bike out of the picture and make it a NASCAR driver series. Blows.
LiterBike: Same rules as the AMA 2009 Superbike rules that were decided before DMG took over. Except there is a spec tire and fuel. Each manufacturer must have 4 riders entered. This sounds like the PREMIER class to me, the one I would want to watch.
What DMG doesn't understand is that we can buy a similar bike from the showroom floor, so wins by a Liter bike sell bikes. You can't buy a NASCAR car. I don't want to watch HP limited bikes. That kind of racing has nothing to due with the bike. If you want that, keep 600 Supersport, which by nature is HP limited and all bikes are pretty much the same.
Premier Class should be LitreBike. Daytona Superbikes should be abolished. Who do you think the manufacturers are going to consider the best class for showroom sales? One that takes their bikes and makes it SLOWER, or the LitreBike class that allows them to display their superiority?
