Finally got around to buying at set of dunlops while I was at the races this past weekend at Barbers. I got the JBL rear and not the Ntec. The tire guy sold me a set not even asking me what compound I wanted. When I was about 100 feet from them I realized what I did and looked on the tires. Labeled on the tire and sticker both my tires say soft. Went back and asked someone if I could get mediums. This guy told me he thinks they are the same, but I should go check with a guy named Steve. Steve seemed to be one of the bigger dudes around there and he explained to me that there was no difference in the compounds of the tires and its most just a marketing thing that they "make" a soft, medium, and hard tire. This is really my first set of true track tires so I'm not exactly sure but these things are really soft. Has anyone else out there been told the same thing by Dunlop that the tires don't really have different compounds? I don't want to be running a soft tire at Barbers in June. I wouldn't mind if it was October and November but the track is going to be really hot.

Those guys are full of shit. The compound is stamped on the sidewall as a 4-digit number. I've never seen a compound sticker. Go to http://www.dunlopracing.com/fitment.htm and look up the numbers.

Well this is coming from the mouth of a dunlop themselves. He said yeah they stamp out different compound names on the sidewall, but he insisted they are all made exactly the same.

No, it sounds like this is coming from some guy selling Dunlops. In that case he would just be a reseller and most likely not a factory authorized one. You didn't believe him and asked for an answer, you got it, it's bullshit.
