GPmotoparts 05-05-2008, 12:20 PM I have heard good things about these tires, just wanted to know what everyone else opinions are? I had Dunlop Qualifiers on before these, but I really abused them with burnouts last summer for the ladies. I am putting them on this weekend, I'll let everyone know how they are.

I was gonna say you bought the wrong tires if you enjoy doing burn outs all the time. :lol Why did you go with a 170 rear? Does it even fit a stock R1 rim?
GPmotoparts 05-05-2008, 05:05 PM I forgot that those numbers are close to my tire size.
120 is my price -size 120
170 is my price - size 190
:rock
And yes, these are not for doing burnouts! LOL Damn I love burn outs!

KJLegend 05-06-2008, 12:34 AM got my pilot powers 190 set for $265 shipped to my door
fullthrottle189 05-06-2008, 02:06 AM M-3 is a good tire. Good for all around riding. Liked them more than the pilot powers imo.
Klo1320 05-06-2008, 06:25 AM running the M3 in the back and an M1 in the front. great tires, with good life.

The tire IMO is one of the better tires on the market. It is made by Pirelli.

Is this a common setup???
I found an M1 front tire on craigslist locally for 50 bucks brand new. Is that a good price?
If so I'll grab that since my new bike I"m getting needs only a new front tire, then I'll pick up an M3 later for the rear.
Instead of getting the pilot powers...
What do ya think?

i don't know if it's common, but the back wore out first and for a few buck more I got the upgrade. I'll need a new front in about a month and if the price difference is under $50 then I will get the M3 in the front. The biggest difference I have noticed with the M1/M3 rear is the M3 appears to have a bit more grip and the lifespan is much better. Both of them warm up quickly which is nice.

I would think you'd get better results with an M3 front and M1 rear.

Thats what I was thinking too. I've always heard of people using a similar combo with Pilot powers. Using a 2ct in the front and a regular PP in the rear. This is just what I've been told even from my local bike shop who sold me that on my old 600RR.

I've run 'em like this before not problems. I doubt you'd notice the dif unless you're really treating the rd like a race track. M1's always stuck great for me. The M3's have a stickier compound on the sides for better traction than the M1's
glolive 05-09-2008, 07:35 AM gary.olive@gmail.comHas anyone had any experience with the Metzler Roadtec Z6? I recently put a set on my '05 R1. I have noticed my bike has developed a severe headshake under hard acceleration on less than smooth surfaces. I'm not sure if this is related to the tires, suspension setup, or if my steering damper is going south. Any input will be appreciated.
yankin&bankin 05-09-2008, 09:19 AM I have noticed my bike has developed a severe headshake under hard acceleration on less than smooth surfaces.
Here's your issue right here.
Under hard acceleration, your front tire is skimming the pavement. If it comes into contact with a bump, or especially several bumps in rapid succession, the result will be an oscillation (tire skips back and forth rapidly, causing headshake).
The bike will do this with any tire.

:iamwithst. I don't understand why you would want to have the better tire in the front and not the rear?
