qualifiers are a more traditional compound and tend to ball up a little bit.
The PP's are a synthetic, you can get them to ball up but it takes some serious riding, nearly A grade TD pace to do it on the road. But they wont look like traditional tyres.
They ball up on the track if:
1 your set up is incorrect
2 Its a stinking hot day
3 your picking up other peoples rubber
4 They tear if you have the incorrect pressures

goood to know that its not my riding
do you by chance know if the corsa 3s or the metelezer m3s are a synthetic compound as well

I don't know about those two, but the Bridgestone BT-002RS HyperSport tires will ball up pretty good. I've ran them on the track with good results.

My PPs don't ball on the street, even though I'm riding them harder than I did my old Dunlop 208s (Dunlops tire b/f the Qualifier). the 208s were all types of balled up. So far the Mich's seem to be a much better tire.

I've used both the Dunlops and the PP and I definately think the PP are far better. I've done some aggresive street riding and I've yet to have the PP ball up on me.

Dunlops ball up nicely, all dunlops.
Pirelli's dont so much
If you thrash the bike or do a trackday then all rubber will bobble up.
All my riding is on the road, and my qualifier RR dunlops ball up after serious abuse !

Here's an image of my PP rear after I gave it a going over in the hills, about a week later. The heat got into the shoulders, but I couldn't get any pilling or balling at all. Good tires and at the track I figured I might but what you guys are saying I wouldn't...

I've ran the regular Pilot Powers on the track. Even when pushing them they still don't ball up like most other brands do. It's got something to do with the compounds and chemicals used in making the Powers.
