Diablo or Diablo Rosso?

So what tyres are you guys using currently? I'm a bit out of touch with the new stuff as I'm out of the country and away from my bike most of the year. I've been reading about Pirelli Diablo Rosso's but I'm not sure if they will suit me or not. I'm only home for about a month a year but in that time I generally put 3500 - 4500 kms on the R1 with some mountain riding down in the States (hopefully) included. I've been using scrubs (SuperCorsas and GP208) for a few seasons now and have been happy with them but am thinking now of going new and unused front and back just so that I'm not having to change them every time I come home. Apparently the Diablos are a good tyres for wear and grip combination. How do the Rossos rate? Any suggestions guys?

I've got the Rosso's on my 03 and have all the traction I need/require out of them. No problems yet. Wear seems to be doing great as well.

Yeah I'd be curious to hear how they compare for wear. I've heard good things about the Diablo's but not much about the Rosso's. What kind of mileage are you guys getting?

The Diablo and the Diablo Rosso are both great tires, IMHO. Std. Diablo is on sale @ Cycle Gear starting Saturday for $170.00 per set.

diablo corsa 3 are supposed to be one of the best street tires out at this point. They have the dual compound that is like 20% softer on the edges to give superior traction. Michelin Pilot Power 2ct also do this. Cheapest I have found for either set is 300-315 shipped. MSRP is about 460 for the set.

Still, what do you guys think about the Diablos on sale at Cycle gear for $170? Sounds like a rockin' deal to me. Any reason it wouldn't be a decent purchase?

Better tires are available thats all. Diablos are like 2000/2001 technology.

So if i want decent mileage and grip I should be looking at the Diablo Strada, Rosso or perhaps the Metzeler Sportec? I ned somethig that's gonna last me about 5000 miles so that I'm not having to change tyres once a season. I only ride for a month a year at the moment 'cos I'm overseas for the rest of the year. Coming home and screwing around looking for tyres, getting them installed etc every time is getting a bit old, which is why I'm looking to get away from scrubs...no problem with them at all except for they just don't last me more than a month of riding while I'm home.

I've thought about your riding pattern, and if I were you, I'd go with the Pirelli Rosso or the Metzeler, either the M1 or M3. Any of these tires is going to give very decent wear characteristics, as well as great grip. Just drop the tire pressure a little bit and elevate both tires off the ground with jacks or stands before you go out of town. And don't forget the Battery Tender. You will be ready to go when you get back. FYI: The Metzeler M1 is the same tire as the Pirelli Diablo, just a different tread pattern (Pirelli is owned by Metzeler).

Hey folks, I have been searching for awhile to find the tires i want to purchase next. I have a couple of friends that are running the corsa 3's. They found a place to ship them from a company in florida. One set was a 190 rear and the other a 180. they got theres for around 250 shipped. when it was my time to by i couldnt find the same price. Well i finally went to i believe the same place as my friends and the price i got was for a set of corsa 3's 190/50/17 rear and 120/70 front. they cost me 271 shipped and they only took about 4-5 days to ship. they will be here on tuesday the 27th. I thought that was a really good deal, better than anywhere else, trust me i looked. If anyone needs the onfo on the place i got mine from just shoot me a PM and i will give you the info. later knacprp

I ordered the Diablos. I was paying $200 for scrubs for the past few years and was getting about 3500 - 4500 kms from 'em so if these last longer than scrubs (which hopefully they will) it's an awesome deal for $170 plus shipping.

I got the package deal as well. Ultimately, I want to get an extra set of wheels to mount up some touring tires for extended milage. I want to use the R1 for commuting as the cost of gas is ridiculous. I want to ride 10-15k miles a year, but I don't want to change tires 4-5 times per year. I would like to get a second bike for touring/commuting as an alternative to the R1. This way I can use the touring bike for my everyday traveling needs, and have a fresh sport bike for sport riding two days a week.

This way I can use the touring bike for my everyday traveling needs, and have a fresh sport bike for sport riding two days a week. I've never been a Dunlop fan, never ran Dunlops passed the original buns...... BUT The Pilot Road II's were very pricey and I didn't like some reviews of the 021 front tire. So I tried Dunlop's RoadSmart tires and so far am thoroughly impressed. I've put 2k miles on them and they look like they'll go 7k easy. Have gone edge to edge, while on the gas driving out of corners, wheelies, hard acceleration etc.....it feels like any good sport tire I've run. I had slips with the OEM 208's on my 02 R1 but none on these. The Sport-Touring tires the manufacturers making today are damn sport capable. Something to think about.

About 5500 kms. Hmmm that's about the same as the scrubs I was using. Guess we'll have to see.

Found this as part of a review on them by motorcycle daily: What has really caught my attention about these tires is how they have worn, or not worn, actually. With any tire, as miles accumulate the rear tire tends to lose its profile, or "squares off". Handling deteriorates as the condition worsens. The front generally suffers its own profile degradation, with "cupping", or "scaling" of the tread, which can be felt as you run your fingers around the circumference of the tire, along with visible wear just off center as you look at its profile. These tires, after 6700 miles, look like tires with half that number, and I have complete confidence of another 2000 miles, maybe more, to come. Although there is a little squaring of the rear tire, it isn't enough to affect handling the smallest bit. The front tire has retained its 'as new' profile, with no cupping or scaling evident, so steering is as precise and predictable as when new.

I just bought a 190/55-17 and a 120/70-17 diablo rosso last friday from motorcyclesuperstore.com. I'll tell you what I think in a month or so.
