What is the difference between putting air in a tire vs. Nitrogen? Does anyone run nitro in there bike tires, do racers use it?
I have A good ?dcracer 05-22-2008, 03:58 PM What is the difference between putting air in a tire vs. Nitrogen? They are both diatomic (IE - N2 & O2), but nitrogen has some better thermal qualities than O2. SO - overall - Nitrogen is a slightly superior gas for tires... particularly in racing applications.

PS - Also... O2 is an oxidizer. So the absence of it is also beneficial to the tires toa small degree... dcracer 05-22-2008, 05:49 PM Filling your tires with Nitrogen is a good way to get better performance and safety from your tires. Nitrogen will leak three or four times more slowly than compressed air, which can lead to some pretty useful benefits like:
* Stable tire pressure.
* Improved road grip.
* Safer all-weather performance.
* Increased fuel economy.
* No internal oxidisation through the elimination of moisture.
* Increased tire life.

Should we use it? Or not? Devil1 05-22-2008, 05:52 PM Why not. Just do it. Wheat 05-23-2008, 09:04 AM "Air" is over 75% Nitrogen... Speed_Devil 05-23-2008, 09:07 AM Why not Helium? 1longR1 05-23-2008, 09:14 AM there was big deal in auto industry on some manufacturers saying use nitrogen will aid in fuel economy and such. but i think they were disproved on it. i know nascar teams use it, as it reacts less to heat and such and doesnt build up pressure like regular air does. it wont hurt either way, but i think most people wont see any improved fuel economy with it vs air, but im sure there are 1000s that say it will and 1000s say it wont. | |
