: Convention newbie questions . . .
bigALR1 06-01-2008, 04:29 PM Hey guys. This will be my first time at the convention and also first at the Gap. I'm coming in on Thursday and leaving Saturday. I'm staying at Fontana Village. I've seen the list of events, but am a little cloudy on the details. Where are the events held? Where does everyone hang out? How many times will we ride the Dragon? I would love to meet as many people as possible and see some of these beautiful R1s in person. Pardon the newbie questions. Just don't want to miss anything in the 3 days I'm there. Plus I don't really know anyone from the forums.

Shustack Rd(sp?) is where we all hang out at night, except Thursday night which is the party boat and Sat night which is Yamaha dinner night...as far as riding the Gap, you can ride the actual gap as much as you want too. Show up starting in the morning down at the CROT(store at the corner of 129 and 28) and wait for the guys on R1's to start pulling in, more than likely its someone from the forum, introduce yourself and hang out, 99.9% of the members here are cool.
GPD270 06-01-2008, 04:50 PM Come to have a good time...ride your pace!!!! Shuck Stack Rd. at night for the beer drinking.
Skeeter 06-01-2008, 04:59 PM There are rides going on all day all over the area. Not just one big group ride doing the Gap. Come up to Shuckstack Road in the evenings after 6PM. Like said above you can meet up with other riders at the CROT.
Aron213 ti 06-01-2008, 05:10 PM and one last thing, unless you have seen a pic of the person, the screen name doesnt match what you think they will look like, trust me

Why?
I wasn't there, but the guy is all of 125 pounds dripping wet, and apparently is lucky to even get an R1 moving, let alone "ride" it.

He can move it from Point A to Point B in a fashion, that when captured via photograph, may lead one to think it is "riding". :lol

As it's been said, get to Shuck Stack and start meeting people. There are all kinds of things going on, and rides going in all directions.
As far as riding out there, like it's been said, stay within your limits. And be smooth. The Dragon can lull you with it's repetitious turns, but it has SEVERAL turns that can surprise even folks that are "used" to it.
See ya there. :thumbup
bigALR1 06-03-2008, 07:29 AM Thanks for the advice. I have no problem riding within my limits. I have a wife and 2 kids to come home to. No need to try and prove anything to anyone. Just looking forward to the riding, meeting new folks and seeing some bad ass bikes.

Good stuff man. Get ready to hear bikes starting in the morning with the birds, and shutting off at night with the sun. It's amazing out there :fact . Everyone is pretty awesome and chill, so just find an R1 rider and say hello. :hellobye

Paytheon 06-04-2008, 11:03 AM Should I bring tooth paste?:crash
Devil1 06-04-2008, 12:12 PM err k
Irishstu 06-04-2008, 12:55 PM Should I bring tooth paste?:crash
Tooth paste is truely optional as there is plenty of Southeast red dirt readily available and more mountain lake water than you could possibly drink/rinse with. So bring it or leave it.... it's up to you.

You will have a great time!!!

bigALR1 06-10-2008, 02:10 PM I'm assuming a lot bring trailers. Where do you keep them during the week?
Paytheon 06-10-2008, 02:11 PM I'm assuming a lot bring trailers. Where do you keep them during the week?
That's a good question. I'm hoping next to the cabin.
bigALR1 06-10-2008, 02:19 PM We're staying in a lodge room, not a cabin. I wonder if that matters?
I'm assuming a lot bring trailers. Where do you keep them during the week?
There is pretty ample parking around the facility. And there is (or at least last year) a large dirt lot not far from Shuckstack.
Skanky 06-10-2008, 05:52 PM If you're staying at the lodge, you can park your bike in the lodge parking lot. It's safe. As far as I know, nobody has ever had a motorcycle stolen from Fontana Village. If you don't feel safe about it, you can park your bike next to the hundreds that park theirs outside their cabins. Just hook up with another forum member and ask if you can park it there for the night.

I'm more worried about where to park my trailer. Out of all the bikes there, I doubt mine would be anyone's first choice to steal.

Plenty of places to put a trailer. Bring a hitch lock if you are concerned someone may take it. But not likely. Fontana is good to go.

:iamwithst Like Dan said, just bring a coupler lock and some chalks with you and throw it in a parking space next to your car/truck and call it good. You may not want to do it RIGHT in front of the Lodge, but there is plenty of parking all around it and in the general area.
Bogie 06-11-2008, 03:54 AM Your bikes are plenty safe. I have seen people leave their keys in their bikes over night and never had a bike stolen yet!!! :fact
bigALR1 06-11-2008, 04:43 AM Thanks guys. No way was I questioning the integrity of the lodge or these members. I was just wondering about space. I'm only 3 hours away, so I can ride if there's not enough room. I feel good about trailering up now.
When you pull up to the lodge covered entrance area, look to the left at the upper parking lot. That's where you'll see a lot of trailers backed in and parked. That's where you'll want to park your's. :fact
