Given the few slots in GP I think WSB is a no brainer for Spies. I think WSB is an easier transition (obviously). Personally I'd just like to see an American in WSB!

he needs to go to sbk. because i dont think he will do as great as people think in motogp. ama to gp is a whole different level for sure..not saying SBk isnt awesome also. but its still different. Not saying he will dominate SBK but im sure he will be top 5 his first season..or somewhere around there..

I think it will be a good move for him. Maybe MotoGP later on.

So does spies really make over 1,000,000?

So does spies really make over 1,000,000? I'm sure he does.. If rossi is making 26million+ a year, Spies has to at least be making a mill..

there are rumors that Spies has a boat load of offers...but then again they could ust be saying that to increase his value! time will tell If he has an opportunity with Factory Ducati in WSB that would be sick! http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/sport/sportresults/mcn/2008/September/1-7/sep0308-ben-spies-linked-with-honda-motogp/?&R=EPI-102665

I think it will be a good move for him. Maybe MotoGP later on. For sure. He has a ton of talent, but he has run a few GP races and not done too well. WSBK will be a great transition for him to show him how much the competition level steps on a world based level.

I think Spies has done pretty well in his MotoGP races, especially considering his 6th place finish in a monsoon at Indy.

I guess it all comes down to how well of a development rider he would be in GP. I mean, you look at Rossi, who again and again Yamaha claims is an excellent rider for developing a bike. He will tell you how to improve and where, and once that is fixed he'll start developing something else. Same with Hopkins. Spies is kind of spoiled being on a team with an already outstanding platform with most of the R&D being done by multiple riders. Not to knock Spies, I think he is a fantastic rider with a ton of tallent, but would he have the ability to move to a team like Suzuki which isn't a competative bike in GP and tell them how to improve the bike as to get results right out of the gate?

I would love to see just out of curiosity Matt Mladin and Ben Spies swap to an R1 in AMA to see how good of a rider they really are, or for that matter any of the other three Japanese 1000's. I still think the results would be the same. I just think that they are that much better of riders than everyone else in AMA. But as for MotoGP no.... I don't think that Spies could turn the Suzuki team around immediately, but I think he would place better on average than what they have been doing as evident of Sundays race at Indy in the rain. :fork
