i'm just curious about taking my new bike to a stealership to have it serviced the first time or so, or just doing it all myself. i have no problems doing it, i'm pretty much the family mechanic for cars, bikes, quads, lawnmowers, whatever. i was told that doing it yourself will not void the warranty but you should keep records and all reciepts for everything just in case. i've also heard stories of stealerships not actually doing everything that they claim to have done on the service records. they're supposed to do more than change the oil, pretty much give everything a good check up. also, is dealer servicing on a new bike the same cost as general maintenance fees, or do they cut you a break? i won't be having the service work done at the same place i bought the bike from either, so i'm not sure what to expect.

I would call the dealer you have the warranty through (I'm assuming the dealer you bought the bike from) and ask them if it voids the warranty or if there is anything else you should know first. If they say nothing about voiding it out then I'd do it myself. I too am a DIY kinda guy, and dont trust most shops unless I'm there watching/helping :P

This thread talked about that http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=232135 And in the end he did the first service himself.

I did my first oil change myself at 60 km's (100 miles) changed to semi synthetic oil. I took it to the dealer for the 1000 km's service and just asked the to change the oil to sem-synthetic with the "first" service. I just did it that way for the warranty.

work on your own bikes. its better that way, you will know every bolt, every nut, every noise. just do it your self and have confidence it was done right!
