Thats the plan at the moment. Im still unsure about how long i'll be down there. Taking a week of from work in the middle of my best season is a tough call to make. I may only be able to swing thursday thru the weekend, in which case I'll have to make some other lodging arrangements.

Did you guys decide to cook on your own and skip dinner?

Well, the important this is you being there. Hopefully, you can make the entire week and stay with us. As for the food, I'm not for sure on the others in our cabin, but for me it all depends on my financial situation since the State {Florida} has made drastic cut backs with us and if I can find someone to ride with me to split gas. If I have to ride up alone this year it's going to expensive.

Not sure what kind of trailer you got Randy (forgot), but If you need someone to ride/split costs with you, you can count me in. I pretty much just go up by myself with my little trailer. Would be willing to split. I will be there the whole week.

Hey Nevrmor.......bring the YSR!! lol those things are a blast. I used to race then for alot of years after i quit big bike road racing. It would be a long trip to run the gap on one but it would be fun for sure.

Is yours stock? is it still titled & street ready? I kinda wanna find a YSR 80 but i dont want a yz/cr ect 80cc convertion i want a stocker from canada with a title. Got any pics of it? Heres a couple of me on one of mine.....ive had 4 total.I moved from the YSR's to my TTR 125 and started mini supermoto racing. I wish i still had this as i would kick the shit out of alot of people on the gap lol.

Super Dave, Ive only got one pic of it.

http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/31/l_642a69471c1d4fe384cbacb939bcacd8.jpg

Right now its bone stock, Ive got the title and it runs. I think it needs alittle tweak and the lights dont work but I just havent had time to mess with it yet. It would be fun to take it around the dragon lol. Ill probably end up trailering the R1 so I dont get burnt out on the way down, and just tool around the village on the YSR.

Just a thought, but you might try asking Ken Wheeler about renting a sportbike. He may know of someplace close to the Gap who can hook you up. He's the owner of Wheeler's Motorcycle Shop on 129 between Robbinsville and the Gap. He's a very good person. I've seen him perform miracles on damaged sportbikes to get them on the road again.

Alright fellas, what's your opinion on this one. I gave up Jennings with Scott and the rest of you guys cause I had to chose between that or the GAP and because I just started a new business (crazy ass wife about $$$ or something like that:argue ), I was all good with it. NOW I Find out today that my 6 year has a "Graduation from Kindergarten" and it is on the 5th :dundun: I planned on doing the GAP for the whole week, the 30th - the 8th :rock, even planned it so it would be just her and I, no kiddies (don't get me wrong I am ALL about my kids trust me) but NOW all of a sudden I feel guilty again. Do I miss a Kindergarten Graduation?

NOW, I am old school, my mother made me walk to school at that age in Brooklyn, NY and even then with the occasional ass kickings from the local retards she didn't give a crap "it'll make you stronger kind of thing" .

Do I go the whole time or bail and only go the 30th through the 4th? BTW, she says no way.

That's a hard one!!!! The graduation only happens once....there will always be conventions. Come hang out the 30th-4th.

:iamwithst That's a tough one... 30th-4th is better than not at all. You do realize that the 30th would be two days early though, right? I'm sure most folks would be showin' up on Sunday the 31st anyway, but you'd be down there on that Saturday solo.

That's part of my point to my wife Kangaroo, Kindergarten Graduation??? I've never heard of it. Hell, my high school graduation was attended by my mom and that was a stretch, now they have them all the way down to the munchkins  If he wasn't a "Mini Me" of sorts I'd feel a lot less guilt but the little guy is a trip, ridin dirt and street @ 6 :thumbup

Scott, I'm already there. Been checkin on airports and flights, if I do this right I can still hang for the begining of the week and make it back for Sat and Sun festivities. This is my one and only get away for the year so I am gonna make the best of it one way or another.

well hard for me to say as i dont have kids but.....kindergarden graduation??? why is that such a big deal? Ive heard other friends make a big deal out of it but we didnt have that stuff and to me i dont see it being a big issue if you miss it but id think alot of it depends on how much the child is led up to believe its a huge issue. If a big party is promised or a big deal made out of it by everyone then i could see the child being let down as they have looked forward to the "big day" for so long but if they dont think is some huge event then maybe they wont worry about missing as much.

Just my 2 cents (which doesnt mean much lol) just dont jump all over me if you have kids and think im wrong haha. its just an opinion :)

Kindergarten graduation..........please. There's only one coveted graduation and that's high school. I could skip it with no guilt whatsoever, because it's only a contrived "event" with no real meaning to it. However........... if you skip it and do not feel guilty about it, you're still not out of the woods. The amount of bitching and stupid mind games you'll get from the wife will have you pissed off for days, and who wants to be trying to have a good time while they're pissed off the whole time. And then there's the dread of actually returning home where you know it's only going to get worse. The problem isn't missing kindergarten graduation, the problem is you and your wife aren't on the same page and you KNOW there's gonna be hell to pay over it.

On the other hand if you cave to this you're going to set a precedent that will haunt you forever. You will get goaded into elementary school graduation, class valentines parties, easter parties, thanksgiving parties, christmas parties, halloween parties, on and on and on and on...........

Good luck, and see you at the convention. I'll be there a day late; my 10-yr old has his season end baseball party on Saturday. :blush

OK ladies and gentlemen, we are getting ever closer to the Convention. In a little while, I am going to post a new thread JUST FOR THE DAYS OF ATTENDANCE. I will need to provide Fontana with by day meal numbers, for Monday through Saturday. This is to ensure that we have enough food each day.

Also, for those that have already made payments, thank you. For those that have not, please try to begin getting payments for the food and shirts because we need to start making deposits on the contracts.

The final cutoff date for food and shirt money is 23 April.

If there are any questions, please post here, or PM DanQ, or GPD270.

Well the law enf. will prob'ly be there but I was there twice last year and they weren't that bad. I did get a ticket but it was kinda my own fault. I went out right after the rain stopped in the AM and there wasn't really anybody else out yet so I didn't get the signal from anyone that he was there. I was running over 60 but he wrote it for 49 (I think) so it would be less and was actually cool about the whole thing. I wouldn't let it keep you from coming, just ride smart and save all the fast passes for early AM or late afternoon and keep an eye out for the 'helmet taps'.:thumbup

We didn't have that type of experience last June. Although there was plenty of law enforcement present, they were not pulling people over as bad as rumored. And we got pretty attuned to their quitting time. Towards the weekend they do step it up a notch, but we'll be there from Monday on. And as it has been stated several times; the area is completely saturated with good roads.

Super_Dave_344
03-17-2009, 06:42 PM
ohh yeah plenty of other good roads in the area that are just as fun if not more. I didnt think the cops were as bad as reported either but there was more presance last year than before but with all the budget cuts everywhere they might now be as bad this year.

So far there hasn't been much activity with the LEO's, I know THP will start patrolling soon also. As of this point, there's only been 1 or 2 along the lake on the TN side during weekends.

Also, be on alert! TDOT has been doing alot of work to the berms and guardrails, they are suppost to be paving the gravel and dirt pulloffs in late spring. Other than that, it's not been bad, now that the last of the road salt has washed away, Finally!!

Oh, and I'll be there for the Saturday/Sunday Events, (workin' sucks) let me know how much I'll need to pay for those 2 days and a shirt please.

I'll try and give everyone Weekly updates on Law Enforcement and Construction. :secret:

PM with your itinerary of being there, and how many shirts/sizes you'll need.

Thanks for the updates :thumbup

Update on TDOT construction and LEO's...:secret:

TDOT seems to be finished with work on berms around guardrails. Haven't heard anything further on when exactly that they plan on paving pull-offs. Road condition is about the same as usual, except for a deep groove in pavement from the overturned trackhoe around mm6. Not bad overall, although it looks more like TDOT made launch ramps, rather than stop berms. I'll post pics later...

Now for the LEO's. We have yet to see ANY leo's on the gap during the week. As for weekends, there has been 1 THP patrolling and he's usually gone by 2 or 3pm. It has been heaven!:tocoo:

It has rained almost all week and we are expecting severe storms tonight and tomorrow. Any remaining oils on the road should be gone after tomorrow. I'll post another update later and keep everybody informed...

I just got off the phone with Fontana, and they reminded me that the block we have on the lodging will end on 31 March 2009. At that time the lodging will be returned to their inventory.

In past years Fontana has honored the rates that they offer us after the end of the block date. However, this year they will not do so. This is not a change in our contract, as our contract states that the lodging rates would return to normal after the block date. They have done so as a courtesy.

Long story short; if you had not made accommodations, please do so soon in order to receive the rates they offer the Forums.

I love it man, i'm sure this will get edited, but nothing like raw, unrestricted power :lol I''ve been hooking it up a little bit and it's running pretty damn good, I like the way it handles compared to my 750, which had traxxion forks and a Penske shock, so it feels pretty damn good out of the box. It had a nice dip at mid to low RPM's, but the cat elim Akra fixed that big time, and the bazzaz stuff is amazing. I geared it -1 in the front, but then I changed froma 190/50 to a 190/55 and it slowed it down some, so I ordered a driven +1 for the rear and it's back where it was now. Just gotta get Shane to ship me my speedohealer and i'll ge good in that dept. I changed the brakes over to HH pads, and i've got some lines from christmas I haven't installed yet :lol Not going to go too crazy with it like I did my old bike :)

Looks Like TDOT is finished with berm installs. They are now in the process of cutting small trees and such from sides of road. :secret:They don't like us locals much, and have already threatend to hit us with thier signs when we come by...:finger Still haven't heard a definite time-frame for the pull-off paving, but I'll pass it along when I do.

As for the LEO's, this looks to be their schedule so far. Monday thru Thursday there is 1 Blount Co. Sheriff along the lake on the North side. (I've not seen him come up onto the dragon.) Friday thru Sunday, there are 2-3 Blount Co. and usually 1 THP Patrolling on the dragon.

This weekend was busier than weekends past. Looks like everyone is starting to come up and enjoy the weather. Although, this week has started off ugly... Rain mixed with snow flurries and high temp was only in the 40's today...:confused:Tonight it's suppost to get down to 30...:whtfu:

Hey everyone.... We are at a crucial point in the convention where we need to get money for everyone's food and T-shirts ASAP... It's all due by next week and it makes it hard for us to have to go around requesting each of you to get paid up so all of the arrangements can be paid for ahead of time like they need. Shirts take time to get done and so does the extra food required for a group of this size so please hook it up RIGHT AWAY (ie: if you have the funds today would be great) ..!

People with blue marks next to there names have paid. After this week we might need to connivently change the unpaid names to PINK lol......

FUNDS REQUIRED:

$115 per person for dinner each night.
$20 for a convention shirt. Total is $135 per person (make sure to add an extra $5 for paypal fees if you are sending funds from your paypal account).

Paypal Funds shall be sent to DanQ at DanQ@SoFastSoClean.com. If you have any questions Dan or myself can answer them anytime. Make sure you put all of the full real names + screen names of people attending and that you clearly identify that the funds are for the convention deals gap trip.

Check and post in the Lodging Thread (http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=241776). It is every man for himself, as you post. But we have folks looking for roomates, or people looking for someone to room with all the time.

If you are unsure; you really need to make this trip. And it's best to be there for the whole week. It's INSANE the amount and type of riding you can do out there, between the Dragon itself and all the other roads.

Hey convention goers, Just wanted to let you know that a portion of 28 between Fontana Village and the dam got re-paved last fall. It is a BEAUTIFUL piece of asphalt and it is glass smooth BUT, the road does not get much sun and it stays damp much longer than surrounding roads.

You knee draggers out there WILL want to back it off a notch if there is any chance of moisture on the surface. I had a near high-side on Easter Sunday and I was riding slower than my normal Gap pace. I lost about a 1/4 inch off my right knee puck putting things back in order. Just a friendly heads up.

Looking forward to seeing you all!
