This is the kick-off of the OFFICIAL 2009 DEALS GAP: R1 / R6 Convention.


OFFICIAL Dates:

Monday June 1, 2009 - Sunday June 7, 2009This thread will be reserved for info and convention talk. The convention is open to all ALL RIDERS and ALL kinds of motorcycles. Our small convention has grown over the years but we do ask that if you sign up for the convention that you sign up as a member of the R1-forum.com or R6-forum.com!

FUNDS REQUIRED:

$115 per person for dinner each night.
$20 for a convention shirt. Total is $135 per person (make sure to add an extra $5 for paypal fees if you are sending funds from your paypal account).

Paypal Funds shall be sent to DanQ at DanQ@SoFastSoClean.com. If you have any questions Dan or myself can answer them anytime. Make sure you put all of the full real names + screen names of people attending and that you clearly identify that the funds are for the convention deals gap trip.

Also note that Fontana Village will include use of the "WORLD FAMOUS" Thursday night party boats with these funds as well. We are privileged to have this opportunity from Fontana so if you are on the fence about contributing for the food please do. Your party boat access is included :)

Each year we have the nightly meals catered. For those that have attended in the past you know that these meals are TOP NOTCH!

Here are the details to date:

Dinners will still be Monday-Friday and each year Yamaha usually sponsors Dinner on Saturday. If you can't come the whole week at least try and get there by Wed or Thursday. The whole area is unbelievable during the week when things aren't as crowded.

LODGING: We do get discount rates, but you MUST tell Fontana Village you are with the Yamaha R1 Forum Group to get the discount rates and so that they put you with us. If there are any problems ask to speak with Debbie or just let me know. Their phone number is 1-800-849-2258. Make your reservations early. IT WILL FILL UP!!! It would really suck to not be able to get a cabin at Fontana:yesnod

Look at their website and inquire with them, by phone, to make your choice. 1-800-849-2258. I would suggest making reservations as early as you can, everywhere fills up that time of year up there.

They have blocked off 22 cabins and 10 lodge rooms for us. So start making reservations as soon as you can. After March 1st, 2009 they will be released to the general public and WILL sell out. SO GET YOUR RESERVATIONS MADE ASAP!!!

For the guys coming up as singles I would suggest getting together with other folks on the Forum and splitting the cost of a small or large cabin. There are gonna be several cabins available. Some of them brand new! kynetguy will be in charge of the lodging thread here on the forum.

Fontana also has campsites available if you want to camp. They are approximately a mile down the road.

This is not about getting together to race, or to drag other people into riding above their limits! Everyone is expected to ride at their own pace and have a good time!

If you want to get up a ride or find out where people are going the next day come up to Shuckstack Road and hang out. If you get to Fontana during the day just head to the CROT and you will find someone from the forum.

That sucks man. Anyway you can talk to your instructors and extent it a week? It may be early enough to convince them. If not, I'm sure some "persuasion techniques" can be used on them. I've already informed my work and some of my preferred customers that only let me work on their systems. Work always laughs at how early I put this in.

It's too bad you're going to KC... that's the wrong side of the state, I'm on the other side outside STL. Eric and Carol are in STL right now, I just got the PM from them and am hoping to meet up with them tomorrow sometime.

James, rest assured, I wouldn't leave home without it. It's not like the golden conex container that never got to the FOB, this thing not only cools the beverages, it's seating for two and is never far from our collective sight.

Besides the 96 cans of goodness it holds, there is always the smaller, 48 can cooler less than 2 meters away to act as back up and provide more seating. :thumbup

I play guitar hero and rock band. We have III and Aerosmith + Rock Band. I wouldn't be much comp though, just play on easy. Could bring games/systems/extra instruments or whatever. It's all on the 360 btw. By the time the convention rolls around, GH4, RB2 and GH Metallica will all be out.

How does that Rock Star guitar game work? I've heard of it, but haven't seen it.

It's kinda tough to explain. There are plenty of youtube videos that will show you. Basically, the "notes" that you have to play are on conveyor belt and when they reach a certain point, you have to strum the guitar to hit the note. Now, the question is, if the notes move fast enough, will they take off?

Hey, there's a big difference between skipping out on a local trackday and missing a day of work compared to driving halfway across the country and being gone for 1.5 weeks. :crash

Just got word from Fontana. The trout pond is stocked several times a year. I can get it stocked just before our arrival (have to remind them 3 weeks before arrival).

There are bamboo poles and bait rented at the putt putt stand for $3 per day, and there is NO REQUIREMENT for a license within the resort (the trout pond).

There is also excellent fishing at the Fontana Dam, which will require you to have a NC fishing license and your own equipment.

Sounds like the best deal is the pond on Fontana if you wanted to make a simple time of it.
