oil...and where it shouldn't be.

hi guys, been reading this site for a while now and have got myself an issue.... got a 2000 model which has done 20k miles should there be any oil in the flywheel housing? i'm guessing no. im getting no charge from the the charging system. i was going to pull off the flywheel cover and oil started coming out, not a gush but a fair amount. cheers :)

There will be a little oil in there, probably seepage through the seal. You stator sounds fried. It's a common problem on R1's and it tends to go around 20k miles. If you look in the mechanical/help section there's some stickied threads on diagnosing and replacing a crap stator. Good luck.
