So I'm doing my first oil change (not the bike's first) this weekend and I thought I'd see what the opinions are on filters.
I'm going to be using Motul fully synthetic oil. The dealers/shops around here only stock OEM filters. Is it worth it to spend the extra cash on an after market filter? If so, which one?

I've heard that stock ones are made per lowest cost contract and could be made by any company but not always the best as far as partical filtration. I believe the best rated as far as lowest micron filtration particals is Wix or K&N filters.
If you search I'm sure you can find the specs.
I use K&N just because my shop carries them.

I put a BMC street filter on when I changed my exhaust and added mapped PCIII

Whatever filter you choose, just make sure it's not a fram.

i assume you're talking about oil filters.
oem filter are generic. do the job, but not very good. i would say amsoil, and them maybe wix. the rest aren't good enough(in comparison) at filtering small particles(sub 20 micron) or retaining those particles.

Thanks for the replies. The whole oem = lowest bidder thing was what concerned me the most. Now to just decide which after-market filter to use...

tnole23, ur putting too much thought into it IMO...performance wise i dont really feel a whole lot of difference in oil filters, just change the filters when your supposed to and it will be all good...just my 0.02

Purolator PureOne PL-14610 -or- PL-14612 (either one will work fine).
Has been proven to be one of the best filters available, and easily available at you local discount (or advance) auto parts store... ~$5.88

i wouldn't expect any filter to affect performance. even the worst should be good enough to keep the bike running long past most people would even keep it. but not all filters are 'as good'. he was interested in which was better, so i shared the info. may not matter or may be unnecessary, but to each their own.

amsoil FTW, they have proved their product over others so I chose them
