I havean 03' R1 and I was thinking of switching to a different kind of oil. I've always ran Yamalube 20W-50 and it's ran well, but I was thinking of switching to Royal Purple... Any thoughts if it would be a good switch or stick with what I currently use??

I think that's what Bogie uses now or has used in the past.
He says it's great stuff.
It's purple.

ill tell u what i saw. buddy bought another buddies gsxr1k. picked it up with truck in nearby town, rode it called me withproblem. i go look, its knocking. buddy gives other buddy cash back for bike, had 1200 miles, was drag bike, so it was raced. #3 rod out. drained oil and it sat for year in my shop. bike had royal purple. decides to fix it.
get parts, still cant find problem why it did it, but after year sitting with oil drained..that oil was on everything.. still on crank and in cases. put motor back together(cleanest one i have ever done since i couldnt find problem) last piece i put on..found problem and good plus for royal purple. suzuki doesnt use pan gasket on 05-06. just silicon. my buddy took it to track, wheelied hard, slammed it down, cracked pan..bought on on ebay, put it on. gasket kit i bought had gasket... put pan on.. it would sit flush on motor. pickup tube for oil was hitting it in middle.
he got wrong pan off ebay and it was 1/2 too short. so when he put it on and tightened it up, he didnt know when he tightened it up on bike didnt know it hit, as it was dripping oil and had silicon on pan. it completely closed off the pickup tube letting oil in or out. it ran for 40 miles with zero oil to motor.. or very little oil. it still spun bearing, but in my opinion oil was only reason it made it that far.
Damn 1longR1 that sucks, but now you've made a believer out of me. Next oil change is coming up soon so Royal Purple it is... Thanks

Royal Purple is the only thing I use on all of my bikes. IMHO, it is the best oil out there. Expensive but it is worth every penny.

Is this the stuff at the auto parts store? I saw some 15-40 wt. royal purple full synthetic at NAPA today and it was cheeper that Mobile 1 or are you all talking about a motorcycle specific type that I can't get out here in Hawaii?

Royal Purple thins out fast. I'd stick with Amsoil, Mobil, or Motul. Motorcycle Oils PDF (http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g2156.pdf)
