02-03 diagnostic codes and how-to

Ok,they were in front of our eyes all along....... go into the manual thread(sticky right in this section) and look for the pdf files named: "02 service manual" its section 7. there are about 70 codes with the related how to check the problems. hope you guys wont experience all 70 codes ;)

EXUP servo motor is stuck.

can you mess anything up by getting into the diag on the bike? i got in to it while trying to set the shift light a while back how i dont know? lol would the error code come on the screen or in the diag section? i never thought anything of it until i noticed the word diag again today when i tinkered on my air fuel mix. thanks

well,I think you have a "enter" procedure to make in order for the changes to apply...check the service manual to make sure.

thanks for the quick reply martin c, i dont think anything happened,i remember seeing a bunch of numbers so i shut he power down and it went back to the first set of numbers it started with?so i hope its fine,i dont have the service manual. i plan to get one though,

checked the original manual (paper copy) and the one I d/l from forum leads... no page 7-7? read the entire thing cover to cover. thanks for the reading excersise ;) still no listing of error codes. :(

here it is the column on the left is what will show up on the display when you start ur bike, the code on ur right is the applicable one for dianostic mode. its in the service manual, not the owners manual

I need that manual. Is there any way I can still download it or be sent it?

How can I get the manual. If anyone can email it to crazkustoms@yahoo.com that would be great. When the bike is on my speedo has a 42 where the clock would be. I hooked up a power commander and the speedo stopped working. It turns on and the clock works but thats it. Also My check engine light came on and then later in the day the 42 appeared. When the bike is running the clock will show and no numbers (42). Thanks

I have a 42 where the clock should be when I turn the bike power on. When the bike is running the 42 is gone. I installed a PCIII on the bike and all the problems started. The speedo doesnt work it just turns on and tells time. My check engine light also came on today. Anyone have the manual they can email to crazkustoms@yahoo.com Thanks

i have an 03, when i turn off the bike a few seconds later my gauges come back on and shows er_1 and er_2. also the corner running lights stay on what is this indicating?

Has anyone recieved a fault code of 12 on an '02? I can't get the bike started.

Code 12 is about the same as 11;just from a diff. connector. Possibly after washing the bike too much :crash Refer to the dielectric grease sticky.

I'm not sure; I broke down about 4 hours from home, had to rent a box truck to get home. I couldn't even bump start the bike let alone using the starter. I took the main lead off of the battery and recharged the battery - now it fires up even though it didn't beforehand. I did get caught in some rain though, I was riding thru it and later I broke down about an hour or so after the rain.

I"d remove the entire bodywork and go through all the wires lenghts and plugs to check for cuts shorts and corrosion.

i also have the same query about the 06 diag, it's brought up by swiching ignition once while pressing both butttons for 10 sec but the thing is i have heard that fuel mixture can be changed and as i have race baffles no cat and octane level is low in malta, changing it would inc power .does anyone have what the display reading codes mean??

I would be very interested in the manual too. Just picked up a sweet 02 R1 and love it!!! Has quite the backfire on the downthrottle but suspecting the aftermarket pipe. Do codes just pop up or can you check your bike for them by pressing something?

does anybody know how to fix code 11 and 22. it shows those codes on my tach. and i cant start the bike when the kick stand is down but it does start when the kickstand is up. any ideas what this can be???????????? or how to fix
