just thought i would post a tip i found out. if you dont have a filter with a nut on the end, the filter can get slippery and make it hard to get off. i looked around every where to find something to help grip it. i took 1000 grit sandpaper and wrapped it around the filter. NO problems getting it off. worked amazing and didnt damage the filter

the best thing I've used is a filter wrench, not made by Yamaha, off ebay, will fit other MC filters as well, and attaches to a 3/8" drive

How about just not twisting the filter on with all the strength you have? :)
