How many of you guys use a battery tender?? Did you go with the smaller 750ma size or the plus at 1.25 amp?? Also how long do you let it sit before you connect it to the charger?? a week? month? Thanks

I use a trickle charger...pretty much every time I have the bike in the garage.

I left the R1 sit for 2 weeks and came back to a weak battery that didn't even have enough juice to get the bike started. I just picked up a battery tender junior (small one)- I'll let everyone know how it does.

I have a couple of 1 amp trickle chargers that I rotate across the board during the winter months. Or if I haven't used a specific bike in a while. Next one will be a four bank charging station :fact This way I can have everything on automated maintenance charge. if i know the bike is going to be sitting for longer than a week without being used i will plug it in as soon as i put it in the garage. i have a schumacker trickle charger and just extended the wires like 8" and routed it through the back seat ... batteries are too darn expensive to not take 2 seconds to plug it in..

Tell me about it! Including the battery I need to buy, and the fact that my R1 is a problem to start on cold track days I will have bought 4 batteries in the last 18 months :fact That's why I want that four bank Battery Tender.

Thanks You can put that thing on anytime....its a great charger that will maintain your battery. As long as it doesnt have a bad cell...then you in trouble. Unless they have put some safety checks in place since I used to work for them.

I use the Tender Jr. primarily through the Winter. Two and a half years so far so good.

i use one, but not very often. i've let it sit 2 weeks and it still starts fine. there isnt' really a winter down here so it'll never sit too long without riding.

Thanks I use the Optimate 6/12 mini. It is a 900ma charger 3 step charger. In the colder months (i.e. now) I plug it in whenever I park.

I replaced the battery on my Triumph 2X in 9 years. I ride every day and have never used or owned a battery tender. The weather in SoCal is much easier on batteries though!
