So funny story, well not really funny but yeah...

So I did the MSRC earlier today, it was cool. It was a good excuse to scrub the sides of my tires. Well the coach says to me that my brake lights aren't working. I'm kind of weirded out by that, they were working earlier, and the tail light is working fine, its a little dull, but working, so that means that the bulbs are fine. Then the guy in line behind me says that the brake lights are flickering occasionally. At this point, I know it has to be electrical. So after the class is done I take off the rear cover and can't find anything obvious. YAY... time for the voltmeter. So I take off for radio shack to buy one. Well long story short, whoever installed the integrated kit before I bought it is a retard and doesn't know how to do proper pretty wiring. The controller for the integrated lights is dead, as soon as I touched it I knew it had burnt up because it was a little hot. So now everything is working proper like, but I'm stuck using the fugly antennae turn signals till I buy a new control box. And the wiring job I did is absolutely the most ghetto rigging I have ever done. Thankfully its hidden under the plastic, because I'd be ashamed to let people see it.



For the other marine riders that are on here, take the MSRC if you haven't yet. It sucks on one hand because there is just as much sitting around letting your bike get hot as the basic MSF, but if you can push it corners, they don't mind at all. And also, sign up for the Mar 7 track day up near San Mateo at Hoff. It is free and is supposed to kick ass. Leathers are not required, but are encouraged, as is safety wire on the critical stuff.

Well long story short, whoever installed the integrated kit before I bought it is a retard and doesn't know how to do proper pretty wiring. The controller for the integrated lights is dead, as soon as I touched it I knew it had burnt up because it was a little hot. So now everything is working proper like, but I'm stuck using the fugly antennae turn signals till I buy a new control box. And the wiring job I did is absolutely the most ghetto rigging I have ever done. Thankfully its hidden under the plastic, because I'd be ashamed to let people see it.



For the other marine riders that are on here, take the MSRC if you haven't yet. It sucks on one hand because there is just as much sitting around letting your bike get hot as the basic MSF, but if you can push it corners, they don't mind at all. And also, sign up for the Mar 7 track day up near San Mateo at Hoff. It is free and is supposed to kick ass. Leathers are not required, but are encouraged, as is safety wire on the critical stuff.

Yep, that was me, I remember seeing a red bike heading out. After I finished fixing the lights and going for a little ride I decided to head back seeing as everybody was off work by then. But don't worry, I have my skates fully shined and sharpened for the rest of the week. I never got that info about the free track day at SOW. That does sound bad ass. Go ahead and PM me that info.

I figure I can head over there tomorrow, after I finish up with some appointments, around noon to sign up. I didn't bother today because I knew I'd be back, and it gives me a good excuse to get away and hop on the bike.

On the MSRC: Its got alot of BRC stuff that has been redone, but it also doesn't have the gay box drill and some of the others. All and all, it was pretty good. The newer riders got more comfortable on their bikes, and the more experienced ones get to have a little fun.

@DanQ: Yeah, I've thought about. Its going to have to wait until I get out of the service later this year, I enjoy having my weekend. What kind of qualifications do you have to have for that though?

I finally got the bike broke in today and had the 600 mile service done...wow it felt good to really open it up!

I just took off all the stock "R1" and "YAMAHA" decals, and on one of them there's still some residue, anyone know if goo-gone would be bad?

I would've, however, I've been busy trying to get the clutch out of my Evo.

As far as being in the area, I'm living on Camp Pendleton up at the San Clemente border.

Ok, so I've finally decided what I'm going to do with my bike.... I'm going to fighter it.

Here's the plan:

I plan on taking off the sides and leaving the upper on there. I can dremel the upper so that it will cut off at the bottom of that lip under the head lights. It'll be a little bikini fairing when I'm done with it. As I said, I plan on taking off the sides, including the lowers. For the overflow tank, I plan on swapping it out with a reenforced 16oz Red Bull can. I can hide the wires on the left hand side by tucking them up into the upper. By switching out some bar ends and mounting some flush mounts to the upper, the front will be complete. Now on to the rear...

I plan on cutting off the tail at the rear of the seat. I can cut out a piece of the sub frame that I remove, and re weld it too the sub frame on there to stiffen it. If I can manage it, I want to get a piece of pipe made that I can weld in to move the stubby little muffler I've got to the center/rear of the seat. Then using the stock tail and brake lights, I can cut them in half, I will put them on either side of the exhaust. Then I'll put the turn signals on either side of that. Then by putting the license plate under the exhaust with a little light for it, it'll be complete.

I don't think I'm forgetting anything. I'm just trying to get this all worked out before I start it in 18 days... time to start the count down. And of course I plan on documenting the whole build.

If everything works out as planned, this will be the most bad ass bike around here.

Yeah, I had adrenaline pumping like a mofo after every run, I think that was why I went through a half a pack of smokes out there. That was beyond fun. I'm absolutely exhausted now.

It was a down right awesome time. I completely forgot to remount my camera and so I have no video. I do plan on calling the guys at samurai to get those pics they were taking. The girl was all over the place so they should have some good ones. I really hope they got me trying to keep my knee off the ground in those hard right handers, jeans don't absorb pavement very well. So when ever my boot hit, I was thinking to myself how much it'll hurt when my knee touches down.

I also need to get some real boots though, I scraped the sh*t out of mine. The toes are all scuffed up. I think those, then leathers, are next on the list.

I really wanted to go on the ride tomorrow up north of LA, but the oil change takes precedence.

I just picked up some of the Dianese boots, they aren't the torque outs, but the ones right below those. I only paid 223 and change. Gotta love cycle gears 10% off, I saved 29 bucks. They offer so much more than the cheapos I was wearing. I'm going to have to get used to them though. They are stiffer and have a thicker sole on them.

I also picked up some oil and a filter, so as soon as I finish eating in a few, I'm going to go knock that out. If it doesn't rain.

I love it, out on town, it was fine. I get to horno and its cold and sprinkling on and off.

Real riding boots def. take some time to get used too... Once you get used to them your going to love em though :rock Not to mention the added safety that comes with them

I told you bro :yesnod i have alpinestar boots and i honestly wear them when I'm riding to work and i have a pair of tennis shoes at work... Sometimes i don't switch outta my boots cuz they are so comfortable :fact

The only real problem I'm having is that I have a tendency to short shift on some gears, mainly 2nd to 3rd, and 4th to 5th. My old boots had the thickness of tennis shoes, and I never had that problem. I just have to get used to hitting the shifter a little harder. I just haven't broken them in yet is the problem.

I do need to get taller socks for them. They seem to rub the inside of my calf at the very top of the boots. If I rock out some knee highs I won't have that problem, and with jeans on nobody will see them any way.

You'll get used to feeling the shift rod through the boots :fact as far as socks... wear whats comfortable... I personally either ride without socks, or with ankle socks... I feel uncomfortable in tall socks.

My right boot does that and it makes a raw spot every time I wear them. I finally resorted to a bandaid on my leg because my long socks always slide down to just below the spot I want covered. Not a problem though when I'm wearing my leathers thankfully.
