Well, it's official. They totaled my bike out and I'm not getting anywhere near what it's worth. Looks like I'm done with bikes for a while. :banghead: I had a minor spill last weekend but one of the right side frame sliders bent and broke off the little hole where it passed through the frame. Instant total. And to make matters worse, regardless of what I do I'm going to have to get something with Cali plates which means a I have to give up my FL license and get a Cali one, bleh.

Insta total for that, huh:dundun:

If it's a minor spill with the exception of broken hole.....and no bendage...why not fix it?:dunno

I'm in school and my bike is my only mode of transport. Believe me, I would absolutely love to fix it because I love my bike to death. It is the exact bike I have wanted for years and I'd rather have it than a whole garage of '09 R1's. Unfortunately, my current circumstances don't make that an option. Hell, I even have full coverage on my bike and additional coverage for the mods. I just don't have the ability to tear it apart and get it welded right now. It's just a time and money thing. Skill wise, yes, I could do it easily. I'm probably going to have to suck it up and get something smaller for now. I'm going to feel like such a moron riding something under a thousand cc's.

bunnyrbt
03-21-2009, 04:19 PM
That sucks. You can't buy it back after the insurance settlement and fix it?

RabidPony
03-21-2009, 04:23 PM
I can, and probably will. It will just sit for the next 10 months until I finish school. That is going to drive me insane. I'll not only have a race car to maintain but a bike I want to fix. I would just get an older R1 but I have a severe allergy to carburetors.:hammer: My other thought was to buy it back and rebuild it when I can and get a 03 LE R6 to ride for now. That way I have a matched pair.

bunnyrbt
03-21-2009, 05:15 PM
Hey now watch the carburetor comments. :lol

I had an 03 LE R6 that got stolen. It was a great bike and quick. You'll be able to have plenty of fun on it until you can rebuild your R1

Buy it back sounds good. Especially in CA where you can register or even clear a salvaged title.

Nothing wrong with carbs. A couple of my bikes have them.

Are you able to ride it? If not, what are the issues preventing?

Everything on the right side is buggered up, right clipon is borked, and rear wheel shattered. That's pretty much it really. My big thing is that I just like having my Florida plate because the CHP pretty much ignores me.

The other reason I don't want to get a Cali license is that I don't want to have to take a stupid driver's test for the license itself and who knows what to get my motorcycle endorsement.

Swimmer160
03-21-2009, 08:35 PM
so yeah, I dumped my bike this afternoon. Hit a slick spot as I was accelerating and lost it. It wasn't too bad though, slow speed, at 20-25. It cracked the crank case and dumped the oil, and it snapped off the foot lever for the brake. Not too much as far as cosmetic damage, and the shop that I took it to said it didn't look too bad. As far as me I landed on my hip, so that's sore, and caught a little road rash on my knee, but not much at all as I rolled rather than slid when I hit the ground.

First Time really goin down...man, that shit sucks!

Anyways, you can see the case in the pics.

You shouldn't have to get a new license. Being in the military you can keep a license from your home of record, so there's no test necessary.

not only that, but you can call back to the Florida SOS and tell them you need to get a registration. As long as your HOR is there you can get it switched. I did it with the wifey's car.

bunnyrbt
03-21-2009, 08:49 PM

Swimmer160
03-21-2009, 08:57 PM
yeah, it's right over at NC House of Motorcycles now, so hopefully in about a week I'll get it back

bunnyrbt
03-21-2009, 08:59 PM
Aren't they really expensive or is that the reason everyone takes their bike there for crash estimates?

Swimmer160
03-21-2009, 09:09 PM
they are kinda expensive, but I filed an insurance claim as a just in case since it was a road hazard, that and the fact that I wasn't doing anything stupid will help

03-21-2009, 09:18 PM
Hopefully there won't be any problems with your insurance company.

Unfortunately, I'm not military anymore. Just out here for school for a year then heading back to Florida. I am hoping that since I'm a transient student I can still do pretty much the same thing and call the DMV back home and get the new bike registered that way.

Oh, and I think I found a reasonably priced replacement. Are there any functional differences between an 02 and an 03 R1?

Ok, so all done with our little day trip up to Monterey. THE BIG SUR WAS GREAT! We got behind some dude on a SV1000 that seemed to know the road real well, and so we kept up a good clip behind him.

@Swimmer: I should be back on the 30th, that's when my leave is up. The next weekend is the meet so maybe we can head up there together. Are you gonna have your bike back together by then? Glad you came out of it ok, but it still hurts to see the bike like that.

Yeah, its nice, but I was too focused on the road to take in much. Other than the sheer cliff on one side and a several hundred foot drop to the water on the other. If you mess up bad on some of those turns, well, you're done. I bet you don't even hit the water before big red letters appear that simply say GAME OVER. Too bad there's no respawn counter afterwards.

Again, that road is great, nice straight sections where its easy to hit triple digits, followed with a nice big squeeze on the brakes to cut it down to more reasonable speeds for the turns. It was definitely a lot more fun when we got behind the SV, going blind into some of those turns was a little hair raising at first, one never knows when it might be a nice decreasing radius. Talking to him after words, it turned out he's been riding that road all of life.

Yeah that drop off is a killer. Right before I moved down here they found a car crash victim in the brush down one of the cliffs. The driver had been missing for over a year I believe. But still a beautiful road.

Allright guys so I just picked up a Pit Bull Rear Stand for my 07 R1 and I need to know where the pickup point is or do I have to go buy some. Cause it looks like a hole on either side that you screw something into. By the way, I got this stand for only $30 off a yard sale and it normally runs for $180, so if you can think of any reason that it would be that cheap let me know. It seems pretty solid and I was messing with a brand new one just yesterday. There doesn't look like any difference aside from being a little dirty.

bunnyrbt
03-29-2009, 03:12 PM
There shouldn't be a problem with it unless you can see any physical damage to it or it looks like it's been rewelded and painted over or it looks like pieces are obviously missing because there are different setups for the pitbulls. You'll need to get spools to screw into your swing arm or I know some guys screw in big screws instead but I wouldn't recommend it. The spools are designed to take the weight. Can you post a picture of the one you bought?

I've been wanting one for a while, but my Zune had been serving my needs fine. But it crapped out on me for the last time the other day. So I'm done with it. It would work fine for a week or two, then it would lock up and upon restart, forget that it had gigs of music on it. The next step with the ipod is to get one of the wireless remotes that have two units. One to plug into the base of the ipod, and the other attaches to the handle bars. I think that I will mount it to the clutch side, and then I can just use my thumb to change songs.

Red Ballz

Wow, this place is strangely quiet tonight. WTF?

If anybody cares:

I figured I'd go ahead and share this...

Me having a little fun the other day. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyXgDPxGM4k)

Mainly I was just experimenting with the camera and some video editing software I dl'd. I wasn't hauling ass by any means, just having some fun, yeah, fun. :rock

And don't bother pointing out the little error on the last turn. Decreasing radii turns can be a b1tch. Especially when you go in a little hot.

On the camera though: I don't know why, but when the sun hits it right, it gets a weird red glare/tint. I don't know if that's only because of the red spade on the side or what. When I ride in areas that have shade, either from the clouds, or trees, it goes away.

A little Olympus 730 All Weather. The LCD on it is broken now, so taking pictures will be hard, but it'll still do video just fine.

What kind of voltage and amperage are you putting out at 3000 rpm?[/QUOTE]

Right now nothing. Stator is fried. When we put in it was 14.7 at batt.
Everything fine. 2 days later...smelled burning on ride and poof...new stator
toast. Didn't know that at the time and got new RR.

New RR...no juice. Followed leads back to stator harness. 6" melded and then took off rotor. Burnt to a crisp.

Curious point, I found oil up the harness line inside the casing?

You didn't happen to catch the amperage when you were charging, did you?

The burned lines depict a short. And there isn't much in the line of circuit protection in the charging lines. So I'd inspect the lines in the charging loop for shorts (some will be obvious by melting and such) before putting the bike back in service.

Once you are charging again, check the amperage getting through to the battery. But I really think you are dealing with a short that's taking out your stator. Probably in the stator lines you found fried.

Electrical is a pain. I usually have to talk to my former spouse about those things. She was the electrician.

the squadron is a great way to meet and ride with people that share the same passion for yamaha and the R1.....and no we are not a gang:lol

It's not a gang and it's not a silly question.

The squadrons were organized so that members that lived close together state and country wise could have a place to go to meet each other and get out and do what all of us love to do which is ride. It is also a way to allow members that might need help to make friends that can network with each other. So no it's definitely not a gang. If you have any more questions please feel free to post here or PM myself or any of the officers of the squadron. Btw, where are you from?

F you bitches. I am still dealing with elec BS. Took the 2nd toast stator to the source today. They gave me some stuff regarding Gauss magnetic measurement on the OEM rotor. They are mapping my rotor...hahaha..WTF is that...and will tell me if they can build a stator to fix this shiate tomorrow.

Red Ballz
04-07-2009, 11:45 PM
Bed times are lame. I have to wake everyday at 0530 and I still don't go to bed till about 1am. Of course, that's probably why I sleep till 10 or 11 on weekends. Oh, and I live on Red Bull.

@david:

That's really weird. I would think that it should be a short somewhere. If you have a stock rotor, and a stock stator, that's the only thing I would think it could be. I would take quite a force to change the magnetism in the rotor to change it to the point that it would be frying stators. You haven't been holding mammoth magnets by your rotor have you?

Trying to find said short can be a real PITA. If its intermittent, good luck.

I'm having my own electrical problems right now. My starter button doesn't always like to work on the first try. Sometimes I wind up hitting it a half a dozen times to get it to catch. More than likely its just in need of a replacement, but I'm cheap. Chances are that I'll just live with the one I've got till it fails completely, or I get motivated to change it. If it keeps this up, then I'll go to radio shack and get my own push button switch to splice in to the circuit and bypass the one thats there.

Hopefully I should be buying these leathers when payday comes around tuesday. Unless I can come up with some cash before then. I have heard nothing but good things about Vanson, and the pictures I've seen of it make it out to be in good shape. No more dragging the knees of my blue jeans around.
