: Dragon Squadron Off Topic Talk
SyZyGy 06-23-2009, 09:04 AM Poor taste? I'm thinkin' "That's it!?!" After going through all the drama and BS and stupidity... I'm like BSGESCH is up in arms about one stupid picture? :dundun:
Don't listen to this man, he tried to shove a direct tv remote up his ass...
and I've even heard some tall tails in my time. None of them where about you being able to tame the Dragon's Tail. :hammer::hammer:
I need to see your "Dragon Slayin'" abilities for myself. Which I actually look forward to doing when I meeting you. :thumbup
But heck I guess it's good to be old and slow then young and faster dead. :hammer::hammer:
Slaying Dragons on the internet is easier I hear, that true?:secret:
My goal is to get to "old" as "fast" as I can on a motorcycle in hopes that it is actually the fountain of youth and keep my young in spirit.
Regardless of how you ment it.

Poor timing on you part. You know that already. I don't need a degree in comunication analiysis to see how it could be taken the wrong way by others.

The BeaverPunchers post does little to help with making it sound like you needed that graphic handy for an up coming picture thread your going to start with pictures of you killing roads in the general area of Deals Gap.
http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4031904&postcount=2530
DanQ I am just saying. You keep MOD'ing and I'll keep posting. :thumbup
Beers on me when you get here.

I go there a couple times a year, and Beaver lives close by. It's a regular meeting place for us all.
As far as the graphic, I'm considering it for the front of some shirts that we have made for a small gathering held at Deals Gap. Sort of where the breast pocket would be so we can leave the back for a more elaborate dragon and "2010 R1/R6 Forum Convention" banner. As for the timing. Well, I've learned that perception is reality to most. And if you folks out there want to perceive as derogatory to your efforts, than there is little I can do or say otherwise. I won't lose sleep over it, or miss out on any motorcycle activity as a result.
That there is all this talk of banning etc, ask around. Even the other moderators will tell you that I am not a fan of the ban. I have my reasons for this, but I'm not crazy about it. To date I have permanently banned exactly one person who was not a spammer. That started as a 7 day, but I was advised to make it permanent.
I have not even infracted a squadron member (from any squadron) for activity within the squadrons. I pass that information to the CO/XO and allow them to resolve. The only way I will even infract over squadron topics is if a) they force themselves into other squadrons (but I ensure the CO/XO has the opportunity to address it first) or b) squadron business gets dragged into the other areas of the Forum (which it has been with Dragon Squadron recently, and receiving accolades from members of the squadron).
I was going to reserve further comment on this for a sarcastic reply with all my helmets (all of which have dragons on them), my Dragon t-shirts from Deals Gap trips over the years, my R1-Forum/R6-Forum Convention t-shirts from different years, and all the Dragon decals that are on the bikes that I've ridden at Deals Gap and my truck that tows my gear out there several times each year, all to show that I have forever been plotting to undermine the sanity of the Dragon Squadron. Or maybe quite simply that your squadron shares a name with my favorite area in the entire country. But since you and I have had the opportunity to converse, I feel I owe it to you as a friend to explain that there just might be a different meaning to what is perceived.
Take care... :thumbup
TheReprobate 06-23-2009, 09:11 AM Also, and get this:
I've got Progressive insurance on the R1. Because my policy is still listed as a Texas residency, my insurance remains at $97/mo. full coverage until April 2010. I'm able to keep my Texas address up until the policy expires. At that point, I'm "forced" to change the address to reflect the California residency.
The quote: $4217 a year with $1000 deductible for the same coverage. Holy. Shit. My policy goes up over $3000/yr. from a residency change? WTF is it out here that causes this? Theft? Crashes? Tell me there's a better way...
gilman 06-23-2009, 09:16 AM DanQ, Clarity of meaning. Great idea for a T-Shirt. Thanks. See all? I was way wrong. Now we know there is a T-Shirt in the works.

gilman 06-23-2009, 06:04 PM Hey Guy's:
Cyclegear is running a sale on some tires. Let's not start a hot debate about the best rubber. Just follow the link and decide for yourself. At 40% off you can run them for a month like I do and get some new ones. :thumbup
http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=5000&L2=10&L3=&L4=&item=PAR_1430200_G
$220 will outfit your R1 before tax and shipping.
-Gilman
Rhino25 06-23-2009, 06:08 PM im running those tires on my bike now. Not too shabby imo for the price.
they stick well when warmed up and the tread lasts a while. Im at about 2500 miles and its got 70-75% of the tread still :secret:

Like Rhino25 is saying they are decent tires. I would run them myself. I have run the Pirelli DCIII's hard for 3200 miles and they have proven to be the most enjoyable tire I have run to date. Other tires I have run are the D209's that came stock. Metzler M1's and M3's. I have a set of Mich Power One's coming in the mail for $340 shipped. Otherwise I would buy these now.
A good friend of mine swears by them for his R6. Another buddy of mine took them to the track on his Daytona 675 and brought them back with balls of rubber stuck all over the outside of the tire. He said they ran great! He rides on par with me. So for people like DavidSFC, Grom111, Lex, and Rhino25 who know how I like to take the twisties....I think it's a great tire for the money.
On second thought I should still buy these now as I'll be needing them in a month. :hammer:
Now you kids get out and ride safe ya hear?
-Gilman
Rhino25 06-23-2009, 06:18 PM they get the tendency to step out or slide if you push em too quickly, just make sure they are nice and warm and they are a great tire.
Gilman, you ride safely too ya hear?

I have found better pricing on those tires through motorcycle superstore. ~ $340 for 2CT shipped. Not sure on the price for Power One. Orders over $75 get free shipping door to door in 3-5 working days. YMMV.

I am actually fairly heavily by nature. At 180 lbs I am REALLY ripped, 6 pack and a v-cut. At around 200-210 I'm healthy so 250 isn't great but not too horrid. I'm only 5' 6" so it sounds ridiculous but it's not for some reason.

gimme some specifics.... i cant do anything during the week.... work...
joe.blackr1 06-24-2009, 09:52 PM I am actually fairly heavily by nature. At 180 lbs I am REALLY ripped, 6 pack and a v-cut. At around 200-210 I'm healthy so 250 isn't great but not too horrid. I'm only 5' 6" so it sounds ridiculous but it's not for some reason.
damn... when i was 160 i was HUGE:flex: but i was just muscle and bones and more muscle.... :flex:
i am 5'7"... shorter then the average american.... but tallest of my family:confused:
joe.blackr1 06-24-2009, 09:54 PM Dang, that has to be a drag. I can typically get 130 to 145 before the F-light comes on. Then typically I can push it another 25 miles. I have never run out of fuel...knocking on real wood as I click "Submit Reply"

i get
54 miles = 1.25(ish) gallons
4.9 gallon tank
any math wizards here?

thats 43.2 mpg.
meaning with ur tank, you can do 211.68miles. theoretically with those constant variables

These are going to be crucial positions if we are going to accomplish our goals as Dragons. With all of the talk regarding different areas, we need guys to step up and be the voice and leadership for your region. All for one and one or all:flex:
Roo, you want to lead Nor Cal?

Rhino25 06-25-2009, 06:38 PM yeah way good. didnt have an alergic reaction to this one like i had on my last bee sting. I think im going to carry around benedril (sp?) from now on just incase i get another reaction next time

madcat 06-25-2009, 06:47 PM Practice the circle until you're really comfortable
That's the plan. I'm good with high speed and whatnot but the really slow tight turns are hard to do on a heavy bike.
Rhino25 06-25-2009, 06:50 PM your R1 isnt heavy, its just hard to negotiate around that circle. Its gonna take a lot of clutching, counter weighting and confidence... dont go in thinking you have to just give a stab at it, take your time and you'll be fine im sure

depending on how bad your allergic reactions are... you may want to carry an epinephrine pen
benadryl may help some... but wont be enough if it is a life/death bite...

bearclaw28 06-27-2009, 08:00 PM well, had someone come by today to take a look at her, he seemed pretty interested, he's gonna look into getting money and hopefully give me a call back on Monday, gonna be very depressing to see it go. but everything must come to an end i guess. i'll be in the market looking for a used junker 600 class to pick up for track purposes only so hopefully i can find one for a decent steal of around 2,500 after purchase and a full set of race fairings, any engine work is fine as long as i don't have to tear into the trans. top end work i'm fine with i just don't wanna deal with tearing into the gears, too much work. the rest is just involving sitting on a stand and drilling holes in everything to safety wire and picking up a few upgrade parts here and there, painting i can do as well, i picked up a spray gun and compressor a few months back when i sprayed the R1. oh and if anyone is looking for some help with painting, i'll be glad to do it for a small fee, i'm not getting too bad at it, its slowly coming easier and easier.
hey boss... edit your post and remove your number....

madcat 06-27-2009, 11:26 PM Hey David...I think I broke my left Big Toe trying to keep up with you guys today :(
How do you break your big toe riding? I would suggest Toe sliders but they protect your outside toe.
Cruznik 06-27-2009, 11:45 PM How do you break your big toe riding? I would suggest Toe sliders but they protect your outside toe.
Lol I was tagging along behind David & Gillman. We were in a staggered riding formation. Well the ride from San diego to LA was hella long and well after a while your legs start to cramp up and want to stretch...
well I'm not sure whats the proper name for those lil orange hexagon shaped bumps that are aligned inside of the shoulder yellow line but while I was trying to stretch out my left leg and ended up hitting one.
Oh well gonna wait till Monday sick call and get looked at :). No swelling, Discoloration, Edema, ROM with big toe is limited little numbness...positive caps refill...but its not going to stop me from riding tomorrow

joe.blackr1 06-28-2009, 06:44 PM Hey Joe, It's just the bolt you see in the pic.

grom111 06-28-2009, 06:46 PM im gonna get it... only like $65 for a set... vice CRG's lane splitters for $200
No don't pay that much for them yet, let me get a price for you from where I got them, pretty sure I got them for like 22 dollars a piece.
joe.blackr1 06-28-2009, 06:47 PM aight... but i need mirrors soon... i broke mine yesterday
bearclaw28 06-28-2009, 07:24 PM the CRG lane splitters are not 200 bucks, where ever you read that they must be high for posting it! there usually only around 50 a mirror, and realisticly you only need one. its all I've ran and its completely legal
http://www.motostrano.com/bilbarendmir.html
these guys got them for 49.99 i think Chaparral Motorsports usually has them in stock, but i didn't see them on their website. if you need a bar end mount for them, let me know i might still have one around somewhere, i just used my old bar ends and it goes right on with only a minor trimming of the grip, (left side only is all i put it on, i didn't want one on the right just in case it got in the way of the throttle)
gilman 06-28-2009, 07:37 PM damn it...
now i need to go and buy a mirror for my bike...
Model Year? You can have the one off my old bike. Which side? Maybe a loaner until you get Grommy Mirrors.
Hey whats up Im new to the Squadron so I would like to meet some fellow Dragon members. So I am inviting anyone interested out for a ride there are about 12 of us total. We are meeting at my place in Oceanside and leaving at 7 to be in Chula Vista by 745. PM me for directions.
Please PM me your phone number and a good email address. I'll ride with you. I have a feeling I'll have lots of free time coming up.
Hey David...I think I broke my left Big Toe trying to keep up with you guys today :(
Quit pushing your bike on the Freeway and use your throttle more.....:hammer::hammer: It's easier to pay for fuel and twist the throttle then buy new boots.
But its not going to stop me from riding tomorrow
Gentleman: AND RIDE HE DID!! Nice having you out there today Reggie!! Come back again soon.

DOC_G your right on about that. I woke up to Linda freshly shower in only a Towel bidding me good morning....for those of you who didn't make it up Brent's wife Linda :rock's and does wonderful things with her hands and elbows. Did mention lotion was involved? Linda I :makeout you!
As for me I had a great Saturday Morning taking fellow Dragon "The Retrobate" out for a run on the 94 here in San Diego. He has a clean and quick 06 Annie that moves well under a smart, quick, safe rider. Hey Retrobate....when we going again??
Well one good ride deserves a bad one....so I slabbed up to Brents house with James, Reggie, David and myself. All went well. Had a kick ass time at Brents place. Awesome grub!! Great back yard! With feet, chickens and a killer fire pit.
Then this AM Doc_G, Cruznik, Grom111, DavidSFC and I all tripped up to GMR. Grom worked the Kodak Corner like usual. Hoping I'll have some new wallpaper for my desk top soon. Cruznik was killing it in style knee down throwing into the corner. Nicely done!!
Buzzed back to San Diego only to discover my new 09 has 558 miles on it and will be getting the 600 mile service on Monday. Miles go by quick on an R1!!
Too all of you that didn't make this meet I there are others.
BTW when the pics go up...you can all have a good laugh at this "Super Squid"!!

grom111 06-28-2009, 07:51 PM Bearclaw is right Chaparral Motorsports does have these in stock most of the time. I think the price there is like 23 something a piece, so that's not bad either. You only need one mirror but, it has to be on the left side to be legal. Take off your bar end to make sure you have the right size whole for the mirrors FYI.
junito70 06-28-2009, 07:57 PM Any riding going on next week end i canx my trip to go to moto gp, Grom111 if don't mind I'm interested in the mirrors if you can get a good price i would greatly appreciate it.

TheReprobate 06-29-2009, 08:38 AM A big "thank you" to Gilman for leading the charge on our ride Saturday morning. It was a great ride, and one that I will get more comfortable with as I ride the route more frequently. Some of those switchbacks had dire consequences if you commit and end up regretting it. :crash :dundun:
I appreciate your moderate riding style being my first time out on that road and look forward to riding with you and those similar again.:)
Went and ripped yesterday morning and followed the same road up until a point. I must've missed a right somewhere because I ended up back on the 8 in less than 20 miles. :dunno Anyway, I paid a visit to Cycle Gear and picked up some new A* road race pants and a matching set of boots so I can turn it up a notch next time out. :rock

For all the military folk who are gettin out on thursday afternoon, I'm plannin on goin up Ortega about 2-ish to see how it is now that it's freshly paved. There shouldn't be traffic at that time.
What's goin on this weekend as far as rides go?
And for everyone not goin up to Laguna Seca on Sunday, who's down for gettin together to watch the race somewhere. I was talking to Red Ballz last night and he brought up a good idea of gettin people not going to the race on Sunday together to watch it on Speed.

Dan, I got off the bike down here in SD after all the fun at GMR you missed out on. Must have been 6PM or a little later. Started in on the internet and the next thing I knew I needed to go to work from 1:45 AM to 7:00 AM this morning. Haven't closed my eyes yet. Got a pass for my new R1 so I can come and go from work. Then I took it out to Lee's and dropped $32.00 on some suspension help. Rides better. Then off to FBC where while waiting for my oil change; went to the new bike section and was greeted by a happy young man wanting to sell me my exact bike all over again. I payed the numbers game with him for about 40 min until I got the seasoned vet on the floor. I tried my ass off but they couldn't meet the deal I struck with HOM. So I am pleased with that.
In attempts to sweeten up the deal they told me that on Mondays for me is 25% off all parts and acc at their store. SO in the spirit of not letting them fell totally beaten I got the new Nakano Arai Corsair V for a good price. 25% off!
Finally my bike was done. Called Bunnyrbt and joined her in Point Loma for coffee at Starbucks. I have a clean bike for about another week figured I could pull off posing at S.B.'s and not look to bad doing it.
Deena and I had a nice chat about all things motorcycles. I think she's going to join me on the 94 after here motoGP trip. I'm looking forward to that.
Finsihed my coffee and then landed at work. No rest for the wicked. Getting ready to go pour 5 hours of instruction into some young minds full of mush.
Think about joining Ray and I; if he invites me the first part of Jul. See his Sunday Ride Thread.

sl33pyriceboi 06-29-2009, 11:59 PM i know this is a really stupid question but WTF are those camel hump on the back of racing leather suits called?
and what is their purpose? aerodynamics? crash support?
(i been wondering these questions for a while but felt too stupid to ask...lol fook me)
race hump or speed hump.....it's for aerodynamics, but I gotta believe it would also help soften the blow if you got tossed, or were rolling, and were going to land on your upper back. You'll see some of the racers use it as an inlet to blow in air while they are in the pits, too.
