I'd put that up in the tire tech area and see what Skeeter and those guys say. I'm a Dunlop guy (I need to learn more) and I don't follow other tires too very much (yet). But they should be ok for most normal riding.

Yeah, Glenn took good care of my bike when I was there and always shot straight with me. I trust him as a good friend, and respect the heck out of him as far as a motorcycle mechanic/builder. He can ride like heck too if you can convince him to get back on a bike :fact

When Michelin ran the recall on front 2ct's they were almost impossible to get for a while. I ended up getting my front replaced with a standard Pilot Power and had a 2ct in the rear. I didn't notice a difference.

Joe, in a perfect world we would have unlimited funds to buy tires. 700 miles on the front is nothing. If your looking to run matched rubber something most people think is a smart idea then get a Pilot Power rear mount both at the same time and expect the rear to be done before the front. This ensures that you have like compound / grip and tire shape front and rear and is considered the preferred method.

The 2CT is considered by most to be a higher performance tire then the PP. Depending on your riding style you would then be running the chance of over driving the grip provided by the PP front with a 2CT rear.

I prefer to run matched rubber front and rear. This ensures that the tires share the same "Shape" and will provide you with more predictable tip in feel.

There are others that just run whatever tires they have and rely on the feedback provided by the tires and motorcycle to ensure they don't over drive the grip the tire is providing.

YMMV

Done! Thanks.

The ride today was different, only one other guy showed up and now I see what the other riders meant when they said he is arrogant. I am not one to toot my own horn but I enjoy hauling ass and riding hard as long as it is safe! I was in the lead position (front left lane) and he goes between me and the truck in front of us (cuts me off) from the right lane to pass on a double yellow... He did this twice....plus 2 more passes, while he was leading, in bad places AND he had horrible timing on the passes. After the ride , we stopped at a fire station to chit chat with a girl on the engine I have been talking to about riding for some time, and aparently he has been keeping up with me all day and is getting to the point (after 6 months on his 600r) that he is "outriding his bike"... I watched him almost highside on a particularly difficult corner, it's do-able at 55-60 at the top of my skill level, the apex is not visible cause it is just after a crest in the road, about 3' of elevation change from the straight to the crest then another foot down to the transition, good turn but he left a big black mark! Thankfully she has enough brains to know he was full of crap.

Anyhow, Yosemite was beautiful and very little traffic. Might go for another park run in a week. Any takers?

So the "rs" models are the street versions of the race tires? I can get the 003rs for the same prices as the 016's.... I'm guessing less miles on the 003's but better traction...win. Hey Gryz how much did you pay to get a hold of a Scorpio i900 Alarm?

I believe it was $340 or so, that's with all the extras (perimiter sensor, shock sensor and factory connection). The factory connection for an 09 r1 is a joke, no easier than wiring it yourself. The alarm is a little buggy at the moment, wants to go off for no reason a lot...still working on it, one more time and they are replacing the main unit... Don't think it's a common problem but it's awesome that if any sensor is tripped it disables the engine (I wired it to disable everything electronic on the bike!).

Honestly, that video is OK.. but a lot of the markers, etc.. and his line choices are a bit different than what I would use. That's Shaffner's video from several years ago. Back then I believe he was into the 25's on a 1000, and I was in the 26's on a 600. I hold a much tighter line through 2 than he does, and my line through 9 is also a bit different. I would take this video and use it to maybe learn the direction of the track.. but I wouldn't use it as the all out gospel :)

I didn't get to see your line through turn nine, I'd love to hear what you do from entering turn 8 and through nine. I had multiple lines going through that turn and I only felt one was somewhat descent, that gave me some pop off the corner. I used the white lines on the outside as my marker.

There's a few different lines I've used for turn 9. It really depends on the situation. Turn 9 is easy to get lost because there isn't a whole lot of reference points out there.

Talk to me a bit at the next trackday, and we'll do some chalk-talk about it.

As it is my custom I get up pretty early. I woke on Sunday after staying up late watching Last Man Standing, pulled on my lid and fired the iPod. I keep a random play list. Strains of "come together" was being piped into my head as I threw a leg over at 5:30am.

Jumping up onto the I-8 East I was promptly greeted by CHP lights. An indication of how the rest of the day would play out. CHP car was swerving across all 4 lanes and finally came to a stop. Years are clicking by. I switched off the bike pulled my gloves and lid. Opened the trunk and made phone call from the #2 lane! Had to tell my riding buddy I might be a tick or two late. Then without warning the CHP just turns off the lights and takes off. I stand my ground. Replaced my phone closed and double checked the trunk was locked. Put on my helmet. Added my gloves and fired the R1.

Turns out my riding buddy was late. Something about feeding his friends dog. Lamest excuse in the book....the dog ate my homework...LOL.

So the 6:00am meet got pushed to 6:30. We bagged about 97 miles before I split at 8:00am for Point Loma. Stopping at MCRD for cheap fuel I made another motorcycle friend.

Met up at DavidSFC's house. The usual suspects were all standing outside. Brent, David, and Verlon. Shook hands all around. Confirmed Chatterbox settings with V2daFNJ, and called Endo77 and dcman04 to inform them that we were in route.

At the meeting point I was stoked to see that ZWP came out! Zach is so cool in that laided back kind of way. It was nice to finally meet him. Alex, Chapu was there looking a little concerned. I shook his hand and we exchanged greetings. Endo77 who I have dubed "White Knight" had dcman04 in tow. Bent took the pictures and away we went.

Chapu, no worries on riding your ride. You did everything right! From corner entry speed to wise passing. It was my pleasure to see you out there enjoying your machine. Nice work on getting the HWY 94 stuff! Please come out again in the future. Also don't forget to bump me an email address via PM so I can put together some free time rides for you like we talked about.

Guy's sorry I had to cut out a bit early on the rest of the ride. The press of Family Life can cut into a single mans game of fun on a motorcycle for hours on end.

Let's ride again. One of my favorite comments of the day came from the penut gallary...when we were at the first gas stop. Someone from the big group off to the left of our group photo was like, "Wow, look at all those R-1's! Those are sweet bikes."

Alex, great job picking up those pics off the other site. :thumbup
Nice meeting the new faces and seeing the familiar ones.

Brent nice to have you down. We'll have to do it again.

Because R1's are sweet bikes!

On a side note, I do have a chatterbox available for desiring Dragon. I never really liked it that much. I am sure we can work out a sweet deal (ie free). Along with my leathers, it is packed right now, but I'll dig it out.

WOW! Sweet deal on a Chatterbox. Very nice of you to post that offer. I bet your PM box is still growing!!

Very cool! I like the second vid better, it's more close up.

Grom111, I agree with that statement.

Hey Brent, Is riding 6 hours on one of their rides different than GMR? :lol

Of course it's different! GMR ROCKS! I can never get enough of that road. And all the good friends I made as a result of riding up there. :fact

I told ya he's a ninja :vanish

If you can't see the Ninja does that mean he's still fast?

I'm with you on that one James for an early run. 'You snooze you lose', 'Early bird catches the worm' Those are wise words lol

I hope you will be soon. I'll show you a few roads that squiggle more then a worm on a hot frying pan!

Had an awesome time with you all on Sunday. It wasn't a rowdy bunch but we turned some heads(when we stopped at the bottom of Sunrise). I am down to go again anytime!

Great meeting you all(finally). Till next time

Wes, let's do it again. Encore!!

+1:thumbup Next time, I hopefully won't have any prior engagements, and can continue on to run through Banner and Montezuma with ya.

David, James, and Brent: Was awesome seeing you guys again. Love riding with you guys. I'm definitely glad that I have more kickazz people to rip with.

Vernon, Zach, and Chapu: Was great to meet all of you. I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune, Vernon, but I am glad that it sounds like you came out alright.

Wes: Always fun shredding with ya. :rock

We should do this again real soon. :drevil:

Yes, I agree. Maybe finish it up with a BBQ?

I love riding early... It's cooler, clearer and it feels like you are cheating everyone else out of riding.

More then that I love cheating CHP out of a fine peice of ticket writting.

you guys are funny!

I've got one.. I remember several years ago at a Reg Pridmore's school.. I was "hauling ass" in turn 8 on a 600, when Reg passed me on the outside on a VFR with a passenger.. Now THAT was a humbling experience:)

Reg Pridmore is slow by most standards in GP or WSBC or even AMA. So I guess that puts me in "Snail on a saltbed" status of S L O W !!

The only thing that sucks is I am pretty efficient at getting set up, checked in, and teched, but you still have to wait for the rider meeting. A lot of times that is not until 8 or so, that time in between there seems like a lifetime!

I use that time to drink and thank about what I want to work on with regard to my body position and lines on the track. It's not wasted on me.

he send the army recruiter an email under my name and number... so i get this call from some women... my wife got upset saying who is this girl calling you and what does she want while im talking to her (my wife a mexican with all fo the chicana attitude) so i tell the recruiter i had no interest in joining the army... and she said i sent an email out asking for more info...

I haven't heard of any problems with the blue tooth CB except if you don't have your mouth close to the mic. What settings are you talking about that you cannot control?

I haven't had a problem with my phone. I can call from the box, answer from the box, turn it up or down. You sure they haven't just been misguided on the knowhows of the CB?

Not here to discount anything Joe is saying. I can understand how what he is relaying very well is most likely the case for the person he is talking about.

Yet I have several friends that rely on the chatterbox with bluetooth to protect their DL from CHP by connecting their RD's to the chatterbox wirelessly.

They use generic adapters to do this. Has been very reliable for them. Of course you can do the same thing with a phone. Not something I would want to do.

Man you are more then welcome to put my number on speed dial.

Yes, you have to put a bluetooth adapter on the bottom of your iPod and sync it to the Chatterbox or do like I do and just run a wire up from the pocket of my suit to the Audio Jack on my non-bluetooth equipped chatterbox.

I thought your soul purpose in talking about connecting a bluetooth chatterbox was to do it to a phone. However, that makes a lot of sense, not wanting to be bothered while riding. I can fully appreciate that. Of course, I have an iPhone as well, and you may be able to connect it to the chatterbox and use the iPod app to listen to your tunes. I can investigate that too if you'd like.

Endo77, yes anything that is output from your iPhone can be sent over the bluetooth link. To include apps that act as GPS turn by turn directions done in voice. Think about how handy that might be.

Another option is to use a combination of wireless and wired connections to pipe in all the inputs you want. Use the wired output jack on you iPhone to take calls or get music / directions. Use the bluetooth to sync your RD to know when CHP is in your neck of the woods etc.

Some guys I know use the cell phone to cover the distance the CB function of the Chatterbox can't handle. Typically distances of over 5 miles. Using the phone to get close to one another to cord. meet up points etc. then kill the phone call and switch to CB once you have line of sight.

the blue ones i had snagged a little, i bitched to the company enough about it (and the fact that the gel coat was a horrible job and the wrong color blue) that they gave me a new set of black ones. the points are all bent in towards the center of the bike. i put then on this morning, they are much better with my riding boots, ill try out my riding pants tomorrow and let ya know. they are about $35, the black is much more subtle and looks much better.

Hey guys, this is an example as to why we should all be wearing gear that will protect us from bad shiate. Verlon "V2dafnj" is a great guy and skilled rider.

We were having a kick ass time last weekend safely chasing each other with the rest of the crew. Off camber turn down Banner Grade...known for issues....he was caught off guard. He walked away sad about the bike but no health issues. He'll be at the track with the rebuild.:flex:

It would have been very bad if not geared up...thanks full suit:fact

Bikes can be easily fixed/replaced, but the body...not so much if not prepared.:dundun:

You shoulda seen this guy drag knee in the coolest style before a bad turn:flex:

BTW, we spoke and he wanted to share this with you all as well.

V2daFNJ parked his bike inside the canyon wall. Walked away shaking his head with a smile on his face. Took all my ribbing in stride. Stand up guy. I'll ride with him again once that ride of his is all fixed up. I have a few more pics at home I'll add later.

Update on the "big meadow" fire in Yosemite. It was 2,200 acres at the end of shift last night and it grew considerably during the night shift. It's currently the highest priority fire in the nation...

Pretty funny all is forgiven. Sorry about your cage.

I did something pretty stupid like that too. Full gear and all that but I got off work last night at 1AM. I thought I was going to have to work until 7AM. Wife kids etc all not needing or expecting me I made a break for it.

I rode from 1AM to about 6:30AM this morning. It's different and more challenging at night. I didn't totally dig it but hey it was an easy 328 miles of fun.

Ha Ha on Dustin asking you to the track. I think he is trying to collect all the squids one at a time....:hammer::hammer:

Did he by chance tell you anything about his first ride impressions of the '09 R1? I got a two line teaser in a PM from him last night.

See you at the track, I'll be in a suit, just not a suit coat and tie. :hammer:

One of my best tallents is wasting time and money on motorcycles. The only other tallent I have that trumps this one is being know to crash a fair amount!!

When it comes to riding I pretty much just suck.

Represent the sport bike community well...and if all else fails, throw big ball bearings or have a nice lil chain in hand.:fact

I've had a couple instances where being totally respectful doesn't even work, 'cause the azzholes in the cage don't want to share the road....putting our lives in jeopardy. Dat shiate don't fly:flex:

I think they are just f'n jealous 'cause they are so f'd up, can't ride a bike, pissed at their partner and just miserable souls.:saw:

rocalotopus, what happend man?

I got pinched on my way into work. I find that there is often alot more room on the road so I tucked my left shoulder under the passenger mirror on a big truck for a few feet. Cager wanted to avoid running over a manhole cover as I was splitting traffic. Slipped the clutch and gave a quick rev to get their attention got a jerk of the cagers wheel taking their car to the white line. I took my space back. I bobbed my head to them in thanks and forgot all about it until now.

This stuff happens all the time. It keeps us sharp and on our toes.

Not worth getting mad about and going around busting mirrors or kicking in doors on cars. These types of actions do nothing to endear us to the vast majority of the driving public.

All the best.

it was out of utter recoculousness that i'm pissed. some drunk fvcks with iowa plates uselessly changed lanes with me right next to them. (right into me) keep in mind it was dark and i had my HIDs on. basically for you not to notice me your eyes have to be shut.

i scrubbed the brakes and ducked him. moved back over to the left from the right. the whole time a sheriff van is immediately behind us. i'm figuring...great. now this tool is gonna turn right and duck the cop. uh, no. the morons change lanes AGAIN to sit behind me at the next light and talk shit loud enough for me to hear through my helmet and over my exhaust. so i'm stuck a half mile from a turn off with cars behind me and a cop in the mix.

i get out of the light quickish and cruise (almost home) when the car whizzes ahead and sits next to me. again. i do my damnedest not to remove a mirror. eyes up, more gas. red light. i move to the center lane (three lanes now) and fall back to sit next to the sheriff. flip up my shield and tap on the window. nothing--he's on the laptop! finally after about 45 seconds he notices me and rolls down the window. i told him what i could in three seconds. he sorta nodded and gave me a whatever look. the car (jetta turbo) squirts ahead again for no apparent reason. the sheriff follows it into a bar parking lot. i park across the street and watch. didn't see much and decided to bail before i did something dumb.

i've had much worse, including having a midlife crisis dbag tell me to my face he tried to kill me with his pos camry after i confronted him. along with dozens of other inexplicable things. it's just gotten so damn OLD.

i might have to say the hell with it and go track only. and get a dirtbike.......

i am sry to hear about what happened... but you shouldnt let a dumb@$$ get to you like... if i had a penny for all the stupid drivers on the road (including cops) i would be a rich man... but something my dad told me before he got into his accident and dead was this. "if you allow one person to get to you and change the way you think then you just submitted to that person and are no longer the man you were once."

i am not saying you arent a man... but in hopes that you dont do something that you will regret..... or worse yet... make your family suffer for...

Damn, Gilman, backroads in the middle of the night? Just be careful because that's when the critters start moving around and they just kinda' come from nowhere in the dark. That would be a bad place to do down by yourself at night. I've been back there a few times at night because it's basically my backyard and you can't see s**t, so please be careful.
