Damn, Gilman, backroads in the middle of the night? Just be careful because that's when the critters start moving around and they just kinda' come from nowhere in the dark. That would be a bad place to do down by yourself at night. I've been back there a few times at night because it's basically my backyard and you can't see s**t, so please be careful.

Skunks have been particularly bad this year, too. Even if you miss, the result still isn't all that good. I'd hate for those good-looking Dainese's to get sprayed!

The Yosemite fire was 3500 acres yesterday afternoon. There are 7 heavy air tankers at this helibase and 3 medium ships at the other helibase. Mediums are like the Hueys in the Vietnam war (very simple description) while heavies are sky cranes (look like grasshoppers) and a vertal (looks like a chinook).

Oh remember the rookie, gixxer lover, I'm supposed to educate...

He tells me that he thinks suzukis are better because they have a longer wheelbase so the back tire doesn't slide as much when turning slow.... I had to have him repeat it so I knew I wasn't going insane... I couldn't even think of a responce.

Did I mention he can't stay awake? His ONLY job on this fire is to watch for Any helicopters that come in for landing without contacting the helibase on the right frequency (there is a tall ridge between the base and the fire that hampers comms) so I'm not in the way....the one time a ship comes in unannounced he is passed out in the passenger seat....and it's not like this truck rides like a Cadillac! His ass is going home...just cost himself about 2 grand.

tight! any pics of ya taken from Rick clemson or the photography dude from 1904?
Good news. I'll have my bike back Saturday morning. Doc G is going to hook me up with a ride to the shop... I think as payment for driving me up there I'll let him have seat time on my R1.
So far they've already installed the new exhaust and it sounded so clean that I can't describe in words how sweet it sounds. Youtube can't do this exhaust system no justice either or looking forward to riding/seeing you guys on the 18th

Ryan, understand. I was wondering if what you were running was the PDC III. You have stated that they were not. The PDC III in my opinion is a really nice tire. I have had some of my best rides on that set of rubber. On that tire I could do things on the '03 that I didn't have the confidence to do on the same bike with different rubber. What exactly is too loud?

I'm lovin' my new set up. Dissed the high mount as much as I liked the sound and uniqueness. Now rockin' custom carbon fiber can with very little packing and TI Akro short midpipe via our good Dragon buddy bsgesch. The system sounds mean and I picked up ponies. I think a couple made the ultimate sacrifice this weekend. Still scanning the news, but this article (http://eyugoslavia.com/featured/31/two-firefighters-killed-in-california-wildfires-2210670/) says two went down. :( RIP, and please remember the men and women that rush in, when others are rushing out.

GrizFyrFyter
08-30-2009, 10:34 PM
Heard about that...i guess it means we are being safe about fire when our number one killer of firefighters is vehicles...

At briefing this AM, the fire was at just over 4000 acres and they are making progress. I'm suprises they are using dozers inside the park! They usually don't use any heavy equipment.

This while staying in hotels thing is over rated... I think I'd rather sleep in the woods where it's quite than listen to a pair of German tourists argue til 1am every night...

If I can only come up with a halfway believable excuse to tell the wife why I need the y-pipe and don't need the $300....

Fire update:

itsaround 4,800 acres and if the containment lines hold and they don't lose the burn show tonight it will be around 6000 acres. My days are probably numbered unless they send me to the fire instead of the airport.

The firefighter fatalities were on the Station fire on the Angeles National forest, they were involved in a vehicle rollover while escaping the fire is smokey conditions.

I'd be interested in hearing your take on the difference. As well as trackpimp's. While I have played with all three modes. I have found that staying in Standard mode just makes things easier for me. B mode just reacts too slowly. However, I enjoy using it on the interstates and highways while driving one handed. This cuts down on the roads effect on my throttle hand. Around town, out in the canyons to include my last track day I ride it in Standard mode. My brain and wrist are cal.'ed to the throttle response I get from the engine in that mode. A mode is fun but requires me to spend some of my $10. (vague Keith Code reference) Slight input by my hand causes the engine to spin up a bit quicker. While the function of A mode isn't lost on me I just find that staying in my comfort zone is easier to do in Standard mode.

I get the Code refrence, good book, wish I had it with me to re read while I'm on the fire twttling my thumbs.

My first bike (the '00 R1) seems like it has a real short pull and had a hazy initial responce (I'm assuming a trait of a carb'd engine vs FI) so it's what "I grew up on" I spend 80% of my time in A mode while riding the mountain route I take to work and back and most of the rest of my time in standard. The only times I use B mode is when I'm in traffic or on the steep 15mph grade down into the valley my house is in. Please don't take this as arrogance, I'm not not assuming I am a better rider than anyone here, just how I feel comfortable on
my bike at the moment. But like I said, I full well plan on starting my trackday in B mode and see where my comfort level takes me...I hope it isn't into the pavement, lol.

If you PUT IT on your schedule then you will know what your schedule will look like that far in the FUTURE. But you already know this.

See, I rest my case. This is a fine example of proper planning. :fact

Griz, why not just gut the cat yourself and save a few bucks? Not as sexy as getting a Y-pipe but sad to say you already F'ed up. You should have gotten that Y-pipe with the Slip-ons and only taken the heat coming out of the Kitchen once.

You'll live and learn...plan your mods more carefully next time...so as you can avoid the burn. :crash

Onto addressing the GP/AMA events for next year. I'm looking to attend the Motegi GP event next year. I'll have to miss out on the Norcal GP and AMA action at Seca.

-Gilman

As for the cat, the only opportunity to gut my cat won't be til winter and I'd have to use the inlaws machine shop...ehhh...plus I will be busy painting my bike this winter.

The initial desire to get the TBR y pipe is the claimed 13 lbs weight reduction and cutting the stock one will get rid of the heat but I'd rather buy an aftermarket pipe, plus I am keeping all the stock parts for future use (laguna seca regularly requires stock exhausts for trackdays). I think I will go for the TBR pipe and auto tune if I spend enough time out here.

I have researched a lot of shit for my bike but I won't buy most of it, I can't really plan out all the mods cause $ is entirely unreliable in this job, lol.

About the mode's. Griz, I don't see any arrogance on your part, period. I'm pleased to hear you most comfortable in A mode. I wish I could report the same. If you feel most comfortable in A mode, I would almost think that starting there on the track might make the most sense. Seeing how you ride in that mode most often then it would stand to reason you have fully adapted to how the bike presents itself under your throttle control.

Others with '09's does it bug you that regardless of which mode you pick, Standard mode is what is presented after cycling the key? I wish it would "stay" in whatever mode I left it in last. One last thing to have to change prior to letting out the clutch. This could account for my over use of the Standard mode, my being lazy that is.

Getting the Y-Pipe for your application is the smartest move. My comment about not getting both at the same time was ment as a "Funny" as you'd have to explain either purchase to the wife. So why not make one big purchase and roll all the explaining to be done into one session. Clearly, money or having it in hand makes the difference here. I much like would love to have the Y-Pipe. At the time when I made my purchase of the TBR slip-on's it was looks and $$ driven. I would have preferred to have gone with a stronger name. HMF, Akro, Arata, Yosh, GYTR, etc. Yet I went with TBR's because I could get them for around $700 tax and shipping included. Back when I got them this was a decent deal. I was looking to ditch the stock look and I had already heard the TBR's on a friends '09 and liked the sound. The Y-Pipe as far as I know has little effect on sound and I didn't have the money to go full system or add PC V.

In the end I am as happy as I can be for the amount of money I had. Such is life.

I got my CF ones for just under $700 shipped in June and the only reason I got away with it was cause I sold my P99QA to my brother.

On another note...my wife is starting the P90x program and just got her nipples pierced...I am luckiest man on earth! She even said she isn't against getting a modest boob job in the next couple years (not that I have any complaints of the current ones)! My life is awesome!

Sorry for the TMI but Im proud.

Do the P90X with her. That program can be brutal and it's much easier with someone going along for the ride with you.

Just make sure they are the mods you want. How about a little insurance first...like I don't know weekly colonoscopy with your "Member" prior and of couse after to ensure she will still remember who Daddy is?

A workout program. Tell's you what to eat when to eat and makes you do a bunch of crazy stuff. All built on a theory that in a nutshell says if you do crazy things your body won't have a chance to adapt and you'll lose more weight and get stronger / more cut quicker then just doing a million of the same kinds of things.

Don't worry I didn't know about it either until like 8 months ago.

The sad thing is he isn't even work in our station! He got left behind on from his engine, now I know why.

First off, I don't need 2 people to operate a damn water tender. The second and third day I had to wake him up 5 times and the helibase manager took a picture of him passed out with his feet up. His only job here was to watch for unannounced landing aircraft and he failed twice. First time, he was asleep when a helo was landing and this morning he was playing with his phone when I almost hosed down a landing aircraft. He has a history on the distric too

I am sick and tired of all these damn fires, I swear camp pen is always burning. I really could care less about the fires, except that it leaves a nice build up of ash on my bikes and truck. I swear I have to wipe down the bikes every other day.

Also, I am thinking about riding the bike cross country to houston. I am taking 3 weeks off work, and am just about crazy enough to try it. I just don't know how much I like the idea of riding in the open desert, in the summer. And the RC doesn't have the best range as it gets stupid gas mileage. If I do go for it, it'll be a straight shot. 1500 mi, 20 hrs if I'm dedicated.

That sucks J., you shoulda come with me if we woulda known. I rode with a San Diego based group today to meet some new faces. 15 great riders. Aussieone was there too. Radar detector/chatterbox up front and chatterbox in the rear. F'n ballz out kick ass. No issues other then a guy that turned around and joined the group blocked the popo that was trying to catch a couple of us. Pretty stand up.

Speaking of popo, none in the morning...as G says...and at about 1:00 we had 4 popo trying to snag us in different directions not including a whirly bird
that was called in. Funny shiate. Stopped for pie in Julian to let them go away.

BTW, very good to meet you Nick "aussieone", great guy/rider. Track is gonna kick ass.....and no f'n popo.

Glad to hear you had a pretty good time. I am not surprised. It's too bad your group didn't do their normal "Idyllwild" run. I did it yesterday. No issues what so ever. 250 plus miles. With the exception of the I-15 I didn't see a single CHP save the one in Hemet. Packed up the wife kids and mini-van and hauled butt fast as I could through the canyons. I am proud to report that I have a whole new love for the mini-van. Knowing the roads I was trail braking corners and snapping sleeping heads around inside cars seats....LOL! Wife requests we take the highway next time. :hammer:

dropped another grand for fairings + some stuff, and for $3,400 i have a 2008 honda 600rr with only 3000miles.
