How do you check your oil?

Well, I realized after reading in the manual I had overfilled my bike with oil as I had filled it until the sight glass was full instead of to the max line. Anyway, I drained some out today and then ended up adding some. Took a bit to get right but I think I got it. Anyway, what I was doing was letting it idle or putting around on it for 3 minutes then letting it sit turned off for 3 minutes then checking it. This is how I do the dirtbike and the manual said to let it run for a few minutes then let it cool down for a few minutes so I just did 3 minutes. Is this what you guys do or how do you guys check it? Do you run it will oil right around the full line or in between the lines or what?

its in the manual, pretty straightforward i think lol. if you're into stunting oil levels are subject to change (at the riders discretion, can cause seize the engine if not filled up properly/varies with bike model ~do an airbox mod), but daily commuter just make sure its at the fill line, and you'll be fine :thumbup

Yeah I checked the oil and it just says let it run a few minutes then let it cool down a few minutes. A few is pretty general so I decided to take that as 3 minutes. Just wondering how long everyone else let it run then cool down.

Never, ever, ever over fill your Bike with oil. It will fill your airbox full of oil!!! :fact

Bike level and standing upright(off kickstand). Fill to the top line and you're done and I agree with Wheat, never overfill. Mark 99 R1

Since the wife and I both ride I just have her sit on and level up the bike on level ground and check it. :thumbup
